historic replay

I wanted to do a historical replay starting from 1901 but getting stat similarities to 1984 for every year i play, 1901 to present times. It was a good even year for just about every stat and is exactly the setting i want ever year i play. I put the settings to 1984 and everything and turned off the automatic updates to settings in the options but after about 4 or 5 years the ERA in the leagues goes from around 3.60 to 2.50

Any help appreciated.
