The Swollen Draft

I discovered an odd quirk.

My draft was previously set at 25 rounds. But this season, it suddenly swelled to 35 rounds!

I think I know what caused this. During the off-season, I split my short-A league into three different short-A leagues. I think the computer thought I would need more players to fill the ranks and automatically expanded the draft. But the numbers of teams has not changed, just the alignment of them.

I plan to shrink the draft back down to 25 rounds. But I'm wondering if this will have any long-term consequences. Is the computer's player development model set to produce a fixed number of stars for the major leagues no matter how many minor league players there are? I have a backup I made from earlier this season and can easily start the season over with proper number of draft rounds set. But that would be kind of a pain.

I highly doubt ONE draft that was ten rounds longer will affect the long-term health of the league. Sure, the more players out there, the more stars there will be, simply by proportion. But I don't think the difference between 25 and 35 rounds is that big to matter.

I'm in a league where I was arguing for a longer draft.

But some of them seem to be under the impression that the game tries to maintain "status quo" and that more players in the draft, more players from the latter rounds will develop and this will cause the picks from the top rounds to fare worse.

Is this as dubious as it sounds?

From what I have observed, a larger draft will result in more good players. Since OOTP incorporates league modifiers, what will happen is that you won't suddenly have 8 guys in your lineup hitting 40 homers. Instead, there will be more players with very high ratings but those high ratings will mean less than before. If say, a guy before with 9 power would hit 50 homers, now that 9 power guy may be more of a 35 homer hitter. That may be a bad example but I think I am getting my point across.
