Once you get your teams setup and whatnot, back up your league file. Then run a few twenty or thirty year simulations to make sure all of the statistics are about where you want them.

I would recommend that after each game for at least the first year, you force yourself to write up a recap of the game. It really makes you get to know the players.

Sometimes, I sim for 10 years or more with a hands off rule, in order to build up some history for the league before I jump in and become active. Otherwise, being a historical player, it may seem strange to see a 32 year old ace with no stats.
