So now I got my team righted..

.500 record with a very young and inexpensive team. I like a lot of these guys and want to start taking care of them. I have a player payroll of $37.1M and yet I'm not allowed any money for next year's team. The year is 2008 and I'm only a month into my game, is this normal? Thank you!

It could be. What is your market size? Your fan loyalty? Your fan interest? What are the payrolls of the rest of the league? You could just have a cheap owner, too.

Market Size is small (Boston?!)
Fan Interest 52/100
Seems like my payroll is low, but maybe a couple teams lower
Quite a challenge!
A little dissappointed.. I wanted to keep most of the guys. I don't know how I can go much lower.

Will I be able to improve this situation over time? How?

From one Sox fan to another, thank you!

It can improve, but it takes a while. Start winning, basically.

Well, if the players you want to keep arent in a season for arbitration or free agency I wouldnt worry too much. Annoying, but not scary....yet.

If so, the FAs , and for the arbitration eligibles...."C'mon Mr. Owner open up the pocket or it'll cost more later."

It appears that in your initial draft you went after young and cheap players. This is a sure fire way of not having any money in the future to afford your players. I always draft older, established players just to bring the payroll up a bit. The game sets your financials after you draft, not before. I hope this explanation helps you.

The game will take your initial finances fit the team spending in the initial draft. If you draft older players the player expense is higher than if you were to draft arb eligible or players with no MLB experience. This will set up your finances for the next year based on your current payroll. I believe this is going to change in OOTP X and the financials will be set prior to the draft and you have to have the finances available in order to draft a player. I hope I am not mistaken because the way it is now it is simple to draft high expense players, let them retire and I still have a higher ceiling to go after the FA's or to keep my arb. eligible players.
