Wildcard Tiebreaker after Divisional Tiebreaker
We had two teams, Baltimore and New York (same division), end the season with a 90-72 record. Oakland also had a 90-72 record in the AL West.
Balt and NY played a tiebreaker game. The Yankees won, putting them at 91-70 and Baltimore at 90-73. So the Yankees win the AL East. Baltimore is at 90-73 and Oakland at 90-72 for the wildcard spot. Oakland should get it... But now they have Baltimore and Oakland in a tiebreaker for the wildcard. Any ideas? I could just sim the game and set up manual playoffs, but it kind of ruins the regular season stats because those two teams have an extra game.

That's exactly how MLB settles it. In MLB any playoff spot that is tied is settled by a one game playoff. If the Orioles and Yanks were the only teams fighting for a spot, I think divisional record takes the crown. Might be head to head.
The playoff games are a big step up from the OOTP days of lowest team number, which was not fun when you run the SF Giants. |
