Mark Prior retires in 2018 with 316 wins.
I started my dynasty with OOTP4 and Rolen17's real player roster. The year was 2002 and Mark Prior was a rookie. I play every inning of every game and on the day I clinched the 2018 NL championship series and a trip to the 2018 World Series Mark Prior announced he was retiring at seasons end.
Note the number 23 care of the old player number changes when he comes off the DL (I never changed it back) Also no home runs allowed from 2002-2008 as OOTP did not track that stat in those old versions. Sad day for me and my Cubs and yet very cool to finally reach a milestone like this while playing out every game. 6 time Cy Young winner,9 time all-star, 316 wins, 3586 K's, one No Hitter (6k's 0 BB's) and I've seen it all from the dugout. Still putting up good numbers over his last three seasons but unable to stay healthy, only 12, 22, and 19 starts. Stamina had fallen to 10 on the 1-20 scale and his stuff was starting to falter. Good to see him know when to call it quits. He leaves a $29 million contract over the next two years behind. Class act all the way to the end. Needed to share the moment and didn't really see my wife being interested in the topic |

The no-hitter was a perfect game, right?

I don't save box scores from past season so I can't go back and look. I think there must have been an error as I had Javier Jazquez throw a perfect game for me (2007, so version 5 or 6) and the history entry said "PERFECT GAME" and is something I've never forgotten. Where Prior's just says "NO HITTER" and I have no recollection of Prior or anyone else throwing a perfect game for me.
He's been pitching so long for me that I was surprised I didn't find at least two no-no's in there Last edited by Sweed; 09-21-2009 at 09:31 PM. |

Have your Cubs managed to win the series yet?

If the Cubs don't win the series before I die, I will always go to my grave saying Dusty Baker cost us the series with Florida by pitching Mark Prior 120 pitches in game two when the Cubs were up 7-0. There was no need for that, and because of it, Prior plain ran out of gas in the 8th inning of the fateful game 6.

Thanks for this post. It really does show what Prior could have very well done, in real life. I followed Prior's career through his college days and I was so very sad to see his decline. Damn you Dusty Baker, to Hell.

That winning percentage is pretty amazing - obviously your team was pretty good too. The only even close parallel I could draw is Pedro Martinez, but he had to spend those 4 years in Montreal + he peetered out a little early.

I have won a few, missed a few, and lost a couple. The 2002 file I started with was a Cubs team that somewhat IMHO resembled the '91 Braves. I had a young Kerry Wood, Prior, and Zambrano (had an ok career, I actually traded him for prospects early in my dynasty) in the minors.
Of course I had Sammy and Alou in the OF. Signed Chipper Jones as a FA while still using ootp4 so had to be '03 or '04. Corey Patterson was rated pretty good and was starting for me in CF in '03. Went on to a good career playing for me for ~12 years and then went onto the Yankees. The years before OOTP 2007 were pretty easy to win. With the many roster rules added, finances being tightened up, and my team getting older (like the Braves of the 90's) things are starting to get more challenging\fun. I'm looking forward to see what kind of a team I have in the next few years as I have a HOF catcher that will be 36 next year and a stud CF that will be 34. |

316-74. Pretty amazing winning percentage. Looks like Pedro but with more wins.

Playing every season of every game for 16 years is an accomplishment worthy of respect. I always fall off after a couple of seasons.
