like you I saw that and came here for more info. Funny how the world has changed in that there would be that post on FB, but nothing here on the official forums.

I'm guessing there are more people following OOTP on Facebook than there are regular posters here so it makes sense.

I anticipate the pre-orders will go up Monday the 31st. That is just pure speculation on my part though.

Relax guys. It's not like he announced that humans landed on the moon. He said preorders will start soon. We already kinda knew that anyway.

Well for folks like me who have no interest in tweets or facebooks or anything else of that ilk, I'm glad someone posted in the forums.

People have put their views across in a relaxed manner imo, I work in a customer based business and the most important customer is the one you have not the one you may get.

True enough. I guess I just don't feel slighted even a little, especially considering that is essentially non-news. If I was to feel even a little slighted, it would be that the message contains no news, not that it was done on Facebook.

It's all about "Respect". How many of us have posted in other forums about this game to promote it. So will all the news appear there first now?

Perhaps not quite as expensive, but certainly as addictive.

Time for a dose of reality. Facebook exclusives are a common marketing tool for many businesses. There are perfectly sound business reasons for doing this.
As stated above, Facebook can be a more effective communication tool because of its immediacy and accessibility via mobile technology. This is absolutely critical for companies seeking to communicate with customers and gather feedback in a medium that is close to real time. Also, having a large number of Facebook fans builds consumer confidence in a brand and conveys an image of legitimacy and success, especially to prospects. By making information, contests, or promotions exclusive to Facebook, companies can drive their existing customers to become fans on the site in order to get in on the details. This increases the number of fans, which is a benefit to the company as explained above. With more fans, there will be more comments and reviews posted for prospects and customers to browse, and they can be accessed more quickly through social media. Company Facebook profiles are also easily accessible to the public and more so than message forums. Sure, there are going to be some customers who are opposed to the entire concept of social media and will feel left out. I am sure that a few customers of Best Buy or Borders or Xbox or Time Magazine will feel like they've been betrayed if a coupon is offered only on Facebook, or a giveaway goes only to Facebook fans, or a news story breaks on Facebook first. But they are not going to stop supporting the company or buying its products. No one posting disappointment in this thread is going to stop buying OOTP because it made an announcement on Facebook and not on this forum. Maybe a couple of people will threaten it, but from a business perspective it simply does not compare to the significant marketing potential and gains to be made by using tools like Facebook to do exclusive marketing. There are countless studies and a mountain of data to support this. |

I've been buying OOTP for years and after this latest thing ...
I see no reason to stop. Heck, my work has a net nanny that doesn't allow "game" websites of any kind but they do allow Facebook so putting it there is sometimes more convenient then putting it here.
Most companies use FB to keep people informed of upcoming events, I don't blame Markus for wanting to stay on the curve and not behind it. |
