Player Loans

I was just thinking about how useful it would be to loan players. For instance, I have this AAA player who I really like, but I can't possibly bring him up to the majors. The problem is that my outfield is stacked and he would never get any playing time. It would be a waste to bring him up. However, I also feel like his abilities will stagnate if I leave him in AAA any longer.

I would really like to be able to loan him to some other professional team so that he would get major league experience and I would be able to get him back, fully developed, when I needed him in 3-4 years.

I would really like to see this in the game as an option for league development. I think it would be incredibly useful for both powerhouses who need to develop some of their young talent and cupcake teams who could use a good young player to help boost their team up. It would be especially good for middle of the road teams or on the cusp teams who just need that one little piece of the puzzle to make the playoffs.

What do you guys think? Would it be useful?

In a soccer game it would be.

In North American sports player loans are not allowed. I suppose if it were switchable in the game it could be considered. I'd hate to see any resources put into it though.

I agree, in FM it is okay to do it but in a baseball game it shouldn't be.

That was how optional assignments got started. Major league clubs signed more talent than they could actually use, and sold the excess to minor league clubs with the option to buy back that player later at a fixed price.

I agree, but one hand it's possible the same code might be needed to get AFL working properly. If that's the case I'm all for it.

AFL? Not sure what that is.

My issue is the push for the FMization of OOTP. I have concerns that this may lead to OOTP being as turgid and boring as FM. If it does come to pass I'd like to see the game separated at the opening screen so I can avoid the soap opera.

This could actually be very helpful in utilizing Winter Leagues without pissing players off since it's technically a demotion in the current system.

Bam!! as well as actual working winter leagues as well. I really would like to see OOTP get to the point where it actually models the entire world of baseball.

It's the Arizona Fall League as others pointed out. My point is currently the winter leagues are not handled properly in the game. To get them to work Markus would have to set up some kind of loan system to put players on winter league teams. And if that's the case, I can't see why he couldn't include an option in the league setup to allow loans between leagues or something to that affect using similar code for those who have leagues outside of North America.

As with most things programming it's likely not that simple, but I would love winter leagues to work properly.

Exactly. Loans would be cool to have, if only for fictional league purposes.

if that's what it takes it get real working winter leagues then sure, otherwise i think they need to stick to making it as close to the real baseball world before they starting adding in new ideas

Needs to be a feature ASAP. It would be a more realistic experience overall, and it would allow for an easier setup of International competitions.

Now I'm a very Euro-centric person and I like OOTP giving options like promotion/demotion and others. However, in this case I think that loans would be a waste of programming time unless the coding for it takes around a day to work itself out. Otherwise, there are other baseball-related issues that should be implemented first.

I personally would love to see winter leagues work the way they do in real life and I will be ecstatic to see it in place. But other than that, I think we all could wait and disregard this feature for a while.
