Have two MLB teams share a ballpark?
Hey all,
Is there a way to have two MLB teams share a ballpark? I'd like to "move" the Athletics back to Philadelphia, and at least for the immediate future have them "share" Citizens Bank Park -- so I'd want to have the schedule rule out both of them being a home team the same night. Is there any way to do that without manually changing the schedules the game generates? Also, on a related topic, does anyone have a link to actual park data files for old stadiums like Shibe Park, etc? Thanks!! |

every team can play in the same park if you want... but ya, unless you use a custom schedule, they'll probably play on the same day at the same time.

On OOTPMODS.com there is a stadium chart you can download that has all the info on every park even the old ones you will just have to enter in all the details yourself

Ballparks | OOTPMODS.COM Next year? The White Sox & Cubs will share US Cellular Field, but both the A's & Phillies shared the Baker Bowl for a time. Yankees and Mets shared Shea for a time in the late 70's, i think while Yankee Stadium was being remodeled. I don't know if the OOTP in-game schedules show that or not. Also The MLB 12 The Show has Shibe. |

Definitely a rumor and isn't even close to happening. Cubs deny it. I hope the Sox don't do it. On the one hand it would be nice to get a cut of the cubbie revenue, but on the other hand they'll find a way to curse the hell out of the place and trash talk the ballpark. No thanks.

Ok 2 articles I was able to find said that any renovations will take place in the off season, but if they don't The Cell is the only logical place for the Cubs to play. |

The Browns and Cardinals shared Sportsman's Park for many years.
The Yanks played at Shea for one, maybe two seasons. The Braves played at Fenway in 1914-15.

Houston has been sharing it's ballpark with a minor league team called the Astros for years now.

Two seasons (1974-75) while Yankee Stadium was being refurbished.
The Red Sox played Sunday home games at Braves Field from 1929-31 and for part of 1932. The Phillies played some of its home games at the Athletic's home park (Columbia Park) in 1903 after a serious structural accident at the Baker Bowl forced its closure for the rest of the season. |

The renovation of Wrigley is pretty far from happening at this point, although it is desperately needed (the building is falling apart). Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is working with the Ricketts to get a deal done, but the state has little money to give the team and be involved in such a project. It's been discussed for years now, going back to the previous Governor and the previous Cubs owner, but such a massive undertaking is obviously a deal that will take a long time to shape. Wrigley likely needs hundred of millions of dollars in retrofitting and renovation. Problem there is, the state does not have the money, the city does not have the money, and I would doubt that ownership has the money to do that--I think the Ricketts seriously overpaid for the team, not taking into account the renovation costs of the stadium (the team owns the park). Supposedly soon after they bought the team the Ricketts brought in Janet Marie Smith, who was partially if not majorly responsible for the planning and development of Turner Field in Atlanta; Camden Yards in Baltimore; and most notably in comparison to Wrigley, the renovation of Fenway Park in Boston (Larry Lucchino hiring her for the two latter roles). Anyhow, supposedly the Ricketts brought in Smith and asked her the cost of renovating Wrigley Field, she told them a figure, and when they learned of the cost the Ricketts were taken aback and sent her on her way (she is now back in Baltimore adding some smaller renovations to the now 20-year old Oriole Park). US Cellular Field has been mentioned as a possibility, as has Miller Park in Milwaukee, or some sharing plan amongst both of those stadiums, or other regional ones, as well. White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf has spoken out against a complete sharing of USCF for one season, and he also probably has the closest relationship with Bud Selig out of any MLB owner, so he'll get what he wants. It may sound silly, but I think one of the strongest voices that will speak out against the 162-day use of USCF will be the head groundskeeper of the White Sox, Roger Bossard (the "Sodfather"), who has installed the field at many of baseball's new parks, as well as Wrigley itself a year or two ago. In sum, no deal has been reached to renovate Wrigley, and I doubt anything happens along those lines in the immediate future. And when that deal happens, I'll be surprised if it involves the Cubs playing a full schedule at US Cellular Field. Compounding the problem is that, unlike the Fenway renovations, Wrigley will likely need to be shut down for a season, whereas at Fenway they were able to work around without affecting the Red Sox home schedule. Due to the whole "100 year anniversary" thing, I doubt any years from 2013-2016 will have no games at Wrigley.

A little OT but I was looking at box scores for the Red Sox games at Braves Park in 1930 and found that Babe Ruth pitched the last game of the season against the Red Sox at Braves Park. He went 9 innings, batted 3rd and had 2 hits. He also started two DP. More trivia, Lou Gehrig played LF.
Awesome. I wish I was John Titor. September 28, 1930 New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox Play by Play and Box Score - Baseball-Reference.com

Because at the time there was a church not far from Fenway Park and to avoid any possible conflict with religious folks who didn't like the idea of professional sports being played on a Sunday, it was thought best to play the Sunday home game at Braves Field.
While in the west there was little issue with Sunday baseball, in the east there was more religious opposition to it. Legal Sunday baseball only began in Washington in 1918, New York in 1919, and Boston in 1929. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia were the last to have legal Sunday pro baseball in the major leagues when Pennsylvania finally repealed its prohibition against it in time for the 1933 season. |
