Ideas for a Canadian League
Inspired by txranger's National Association logos, I'm creating a Independent (AAA level) Canadian league. I would like ideas for team nicknames. Any other ideas that might make sense for a league in Canada would be great as well. Thanks.
Toronto Montreal Quebec City Hamilton Ottawa London Vancouver Calgary Edmonton Winnipeg Victoria Saskatoon I meant to place this in the General Discussions thread. Please move. Thank you. Last edited by GiantYankee; 11-20-2012 at 06:13 PM. |

I probably say this any time someone asks about a Canadian league, but you missed the hotbed of baseball, my hometown, stinky Windsor! Home of such MLB standouts as Stubby Clapp and Joe Siddal!

Well since Canada's favourite sport is hockey, in my leagues with Canadian teams I use nicknames from junior hockey teams. Some of the logos can be used for baseball. Here are my suggestions fwiw:
Toronto Marlboros Montreal Expos (tribute to the real team) Quebec City Remparts Hamilton Steelhawks Ottawa 67's London Knights Vancouver Giants Calgary Hitmen Edmonton Oil Kings Winnipeg Warriors or Monarchs Victoria Royals Saskatoon Wheat Kings (taken from Brandon Wheat Kings) |

Ottawa Rivermen
I will keep pushing that one until someone finally uses it. We are getting a AA team in 2014 but we still don't know which team it will be. Victoria Cougars. They were a junior hockey team back in the day but the name is now unused, as far as I know. |

Hello! I have a fictional universe with Major Leagues in several countries in Europe and North America on par with the MLB.
In Canada, wich is the league I play in, there are 24 clubs (4 divisions, no sub-leagues), beeing: Toronto Blue Jays Toronto St. Pats Montreal Maroons Montreal Expos Granby Bisons Halifax Citadels Québec Nordiques Québec Aces Halifax Citadels Gatineau Olympiques Sherbrooke Beavers (Castors) Mississauga National Windsor Spitfires London Monarchs Ottawa Civics Kitchener-Waterloo Greenshirts Oshawa Generals Hamilton Tigers Winnipeg Falcons Regina Capitals Saskatchewan Huskies (located in Saskatoon, SK) Vancouver Whitecaps Victoria Salmon Kings Calgary Cowboys Edmonton Royals All with custom made logos, based on teams that already exist (or did exist) on leagues in Hockey (like NHL, AHL, WHA, Junior Hockey), soccer and others. There are full minors too, with the Ontario Baseball League (AAA), Québec & Maritimes League (AA), British Columbia League (AA), Pacific Coast League (A), and others, with teams on cities like Niagara Falls, ON Sault St. Marie, ON Surrey, BC Laval, QC St. John, NF Moose Jaw, SK Trail, BC Nanaimo, BC Sydney, NS Chicoutimi, QC Fredericton, NB Oakville, ON And many others. All with their logos aswell, with names based on teams of the past and present, or fully fictional. Sorry for the long post, it's just that I put a lot of tougth and offort on my leagues and I tend to get carried on. =) All my logos are simple, also based on existing logos. It's fully avaible, if you are interested (or anybody else, for that matter). |

My current CBU (Canadian Baseball Union) has the following teams:
Terry Puhl League Winnipeg Generals Victoria Seafarers Sudbury Miners Regina Rattlers Chilliwack Sabres Calgary Cannons Matt Stairs League St. John's Fog Devils Sherbrooke Aces Moncton Marauders London Crusaders Halifax Kingfishers Gatineau Royales To keep with the Canadian Theme I have the Ferguson Jenkins & Larry Walker Awards. I also use 3 levels of minors (usually just play with reserve roster but decided to change things up) with each teams minor affiliates located in their home province. I do a lot of other weird stuff too but that's the general layout. |

Wouldn't a Waterloo team would have to be the Blackberrys?
An expansion team that eventually dominates the league, forcing the other existing teams to adapt to different ways of creating and improving their teams, which forces a change to the league's overall strategic model. Accordingly Waterloo doesn't update and maintain their team, instead they stubbornly adhere to an old, antiquated methodology, disillusion their fan base, and eventually fade into obscurity?

Mostly based on the suggestions, I've decided to go with the following. Still
undecided over several of the teams. Toronto Huskies Montreal Maroons Quebec City Defenders or Remparts Hamilton Ottawa Riverman or 67's London Vancouver Calgary Cowboys Edmonton Barons or Oil Kings Winnipeg Victoria Cougars Saskatoon |

Hell the Expos tried the Quebec Carnavals route, and it was a flop. People in Quebec generally don't want to think about winter until fall. Because snow tires. |
