Expansion Questions
Guys,
We are expanding our online league at the end of next season. It's a 10 team league. We are adding two teams. How many rounds should I make the draft? How many players should each team be able to protect? Is there a certain date that works best for an expansion draft?

I recommend a 20 round draft with 12-14 players protected. Also, I would hit "Expand League" on the first day of the preseason. This prevents the expansion teams from picking up the big free agents, while still giving them enough time to fill out their rosters.
(Also, is Birmingham taken yet? It's been three days, but if they're still open I would like to have them. I applied to the league a few seasons ago but did not get a team.) |

So I had two suggestions.....a 20 round draft and a 35 round draft. What problems could there be since we only have ten teams in the league being expanded? How many players should I allow each team to protect.

In a recent expansion, I went from 28-30 teams and allowed for 20 players to be protected.
My expansion team got too good, too fast. I did sign a very good starting pitcher, so limiting the ability to add the premier FA would help. |
