All-Star Game

With the customizable roster size in OOTP6, is it correct to assume that All-Star rosters will match the roster size you've set it for during the regular season?

Will there be flexibility to manually select All-Stars without an external editor?

Has a player ever been injured in an OOTP All Star Game? I don't think I've ever seen that, and it could be kind of cool to have as something the user could turn on/off whether or not the All Star uses the fatigue/injury code.

The two most important things are making sure that every team has a representative and that the All-Star game's outcome effects who will have home-field advantage in the playoffs. The home-field advantage thing could at least be an option. And maybe it already is, but I haven't read all the new features and it's been so long since I last posted I had to make up a new name...

All-star voting would be really cool because you could take into account a player's prestige as he gets voted to be the starting third baseman for the American League even though he cleary doesn't deserve it for that particular season. A la Cal Ripken, the last time A-Rod played third base. It would make for some pretty good snubs and then you could have news articles about players getting snubbed. I'm sure this would take a lot more work than it's worth, but that's why they call this a "suggestion" board.

Seems an appropriate time to suggest a feature like having OOTP6 "nominate" All-Star and awards candidates with final selection determined by the player. The game could even do it in simpler fashion: the cpu "picks" the AS or award winners as default selections; the player can elect to do nothing and the game proceeds as it does at present--OR--the player could simply type in any over-ride choices if the player felt other candidates were more deserving.

Maybe I'm way off base but "I hope" that very little if any time is given to this "one time a year exhibition game" and time and effort are put into the other 162 games that a team plays as well as the playoffs.

Just my nickel.......

Agreed, Steve, particularly if the trade-off is a flexible, customizable post-season module. I just dont see why the above suggestion would be that difficult to include, and as eye-candy it adds a lot to the personal universe of the gamer. And thats My nickel.

I would hope that Markus spends no more than the time required to read this thread thinking about the All-Star game. I turn it off as it is. I hate All Star games.

While I agree that the All-Star game should be way, way down on the list of priorities, one thing I've always wished we could do is decide where the game is played. No big deal - just a very low priority "wish"

Hey! Now that the All-star game "counts", people are going to focus on winning the All-star game so their league can get home field advantage in the playoffs.

That's only now, this certainly wasn't the case in previous years. Indeed, prior to 1925, home field advantage in the World Series was assigned by coin tosses.

In any event, you can do this yourself in OOTP by using the schedule editor to change the post-season playoff schedule to whatever you want. Just change which of the two teams is playing at home in any game and you're done. You could set up a 3-4 rotation if you wanted, or a 2-2-1-1-1, or even have all 7 games played in the same city for that matter.

The game is already flexible enough to do this, it's just that you have to do a tiny bit of work yourself to take advantage of it. That seems an entirely reasonable compromise to me...

This can be done already. Just choose a different stadium in the pre-game screen. I do it every season.

I could care less about the all-star game. I just think its an honor to be selected and a great way to tell who the hot players in the league are. A voting system would make it easy for us lazy people to see where our players match up!

Plus, when I start out with my small market teams who don't have a star, I think its neat to see which one of my unsung heros make the the AS roster.

and thats my nickel

Giddy uP!

Maybe this issue is already known, but I could swear that stats accumulated in the ASG counted in players' regular season stats.

NO THEY DON'T, it's just in the boxscore they APPEAR to. To make it work any differently you'd have to code an entire game engine for just one game that is practically meaningless.......not a wise use of resources.

I don't think it should be top priority, but it would be nice to improve what's already there. Having news articles detailing all-star voting, and things like that would be nice additions... strictly for immersion reasons.

Well i agree that there are more important features to work on but at the same time i wouldnt just toss the all star game aside.
I mean the baseball all star game use to mean something and i will give Selig credit for at least trying to take it away from being a pro bowl type game to what it use to be when the NL & AL played more for pride.
But whats most important to me is a more customized way of choosing all-stars. A lot of us will say so and so was a 7 time all star should he be a hall of famer. Well if there was a little bit better control over the selection process besides just manually then all star would mean a little more as far as weighing hall of famers.
Of course its no big deal since you can do it manually but i would love to be able to adjust my all star selection based on my league settings and like hr, rbi avg, wins etc up to the point of the all star game.
Yeah you can do it manually but instead of checking every player every year id rather be playing the game.

But no biggie. If it happens some day fine if not fine.
