Finally home field advantage implemented, good job Markus. It`s hard to determine why teams perform better at home (could be the crowd, could be knowledge the ballpark, could be just the comfort of staying at home). Bottom line - there is one in real life, so there should be one in the game. And it is important, not so much during the regular season, more so in the playoffs where that home-field advantage in Game 5 or 7 can play a role.

Cool, glad to see this implemeneted, although I wonder how it is implemented.
A slight range/fielding advantage for outfielders in their home park? Slight ratings boost to home team players? Less fatigue when you are on a homestand?

Because of NDA, I don't think we can give details. I will say this: in the test sims that were run that I've had access to, the splits for home vs. away records look a lot more like MLB than in the past.

The coolest thing to me will be heading back to Wrigley after the west coast swing where we struggled and knowing that 9 game homestand coming up will really mean something. |

But the problem with OOTP5 (and 6.0) was that it was happening way too often. In just one small example, the online league in my signature has never had a champion with the best overall record. It's become a running joke (the DDB Jinx), with teams actively trying to avoid ending the season with the best record. While there should be some instances of lesser teams beating better teams in the postseason, it shouldn't happen as often as it has, and I hope home field advantage will take care of it.

I hope the Computer Teams have home field advantage too when you are playing away games.....when you stop to think about, wins and loses affected by this home field advantage modifier should basically be a wash as you would lose some extra away games as well.... it would not be very realistic if it only benefited the player's home games but not the AI's....I probably will leave this option off for now until more is learned about it.....

Thank you Markus.
It is great news that Home Field Advantage has been put into the game. Here are some very convincing stats for the unconvinced: Le Grande Orange did this excellent research: This first chart takes a look at each team's home and away record for the season, and makes a simple count of whether the team did better at home, better away, or was the same at both. The numbers cover the period from 1901 to 2002: National League 82.93% American League 83.33% TOTAL 83.13%-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, as you can see, slightly over 83% of the major league teams have finished the season with a better home winning percentage than road winning percentage. That's more that 4 out of 5 teams, covering 102 seasons. Another chart in the thread shows the home team won 55% of the time. |
