Pitcher's "stuff"

There are over 30 pages of topics, and I'm too tired to try to scroll through them all to find this topic.

I imported 1931 rosters and started managing the Philadelphia A's. I noticed while using Eddie Rommel that the "stuff" ratings of the pitchers are very low. Rommel had a 1, Lefty Grove had a 41, and Lefty Gomez from the Yankees had a 46. I understand that Rommel only pitched until 1932 and he was 32 years old and on his way out, but Grove and Gomez were the premier pitchers of that day. And even so, he still pitched 118 innings and had a 2.97 ERA. I'm thinking this rating may be the reason why Grove got tagged for 7 runs in one inning for me yesterday and may also be the reason people are complaining about 11-10 game scores. Any thoughts from anyone??

Speaking of 11-10 games, I just came back from being down 10-2 and scored 5 runs in the 8th and 6 runs in the 9th to come back and win 13-10 against the Yankees.

How many games of the season have been played? What league total settings are you using? What do the league-wide totals look like?

I'm still in the first week of the season. I haven't looked at totals yet. As far as league settings, I didn't change anything, so I have to say it's whatever the default settings were on. I don't even know where to change anything in settings since I just recently purchased the game. Any info wpuld be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, you started with a historical league so they will be a default level for that time period. To change them, simply click League-->League Setup and then the Engine Setup tab. You can adjust the league totals to achieve a desired result. I strongly recomend not trying to eyeball them, but instead use the great spreadsheet from Jason Moyer (zip attached) or Iatric SB's league total add-on. I wouldn't worry about the stats thus far, the 30s was a hitters era and even Lefty Grove had some bad outings. As long as the numbers look good at the end of the season, you should be good to go.

Holyroller,

I looked at the spreadsheet you sent me and I'm not sure exactly what numbers are supposed to go where. Do I put the default numbers from the game into era settings in the spreadsheet? and then just play around with it after that? How will I know if I'm even close to a correct setting or if I'm totally throwing it out of whack? Thanks.

Vinny

Yup, put the default settings in the spreadsheet under Era Settings. Then, put your desired league totals in the Goal heading. Create a copt of the league and name it something like test.lg, then run a test sim. Put the resulting combined league totals in the Sim Result category. It will then give you totals to use to get closer to your goal. Use those in the test league again and repeat as neccessary. Usually you can get the totals to within .1 of the goal.
