Im not sure what news there would be. As far as I know this last patch, 6.12, is the last patch we will see until OOTP7 comes out.

Pretty sure that 6.12 closed the books on v6 and I would count on much if any more news about v7 anytime soon. Fairly certain this was stated by either Markus or someone w/ SI.

I really hate hearing this. Considering the crash bugs with the sound were not fixed in the last release. It will definitely weigh my decision to buy a program in the future that they stop supporting a year or two later when they decide to come out with a new version.

There are so many minor bugs in the current version. They asked for a list once of the bugs. I spent the time to sit down and list all of the bugs that I was aware of and only 1 was repaired, and at the time, it was not declared a bug. (Not showing extensions in the player history).

I don't expect someone to keep supporting a program forever, but at least I expect them to fix bugs that are known.

1 year ago today it was released.

Now, after another year of intense research, analysis and re-programming, Out of the Park Developments is proud to announce that OOTP 6.0 will go live today, Friday, April 16th, at noon EST!

A boon to multi-player leagues, full head-to-head play over the Internet!

Serious question: do you own many other $19.95 software packages whose programmer(s) fix every known bug?

It wasn't $19.95. It was $34.95. For that I would expect more.

And not to be overly provocative, but at what point would one be entitled to make expectations or comparisons, $79.95? $99.99? Or only if another competitor starting doing it first or was doing it at all?

I'm not an antagonist, nor a fanboy, but my association with the game has left me a bit disenchanted - and only on the fringes - with the many aspects of the game that have been left seemingly unattended while known annoyances. This only adds fuel to simmering embers. That's really not a good thing overall.

I love the game. Hell, I even enjoy reading your many ripartes with the mobs of disquiet. But toleration or settling for less in light of greater gains infers an acceptance and approval of conditions - as I've stated in another thread. In my humble opinion, it's not inappropriate to express disappointment. And just because someone is hitting my foot with a hammer doesn't mean I should be grateful someone else is only using a spatula on my head. It still stings.

Most of the entertainment comes not from the game itself but reading the ever so often "war" thread on the forums.

Well, I used to play High Heat, which wasn't cheap, and they never even came close to fixing all of the bugs. Ditto Tony LaRussa. Ditto Earl Weaver - in fact, I suspect that we testers never even found some of them in EW2.

Fixing all the bugs - especially the trivial ones that don't effect play - is a mighty tall order, and it assumes that you both can find them all and have found them all. In the case of the sound problem, I don't even think the problem is in OOTP itself; I'd be willing to bet it's more of a sound driver/DirectX/interface kind of problem. I keep my systems up to date and the sound has always worked when I've tested it.

I think Markus is doing the right thing in totally recoding OOTP for version 7. (It's a bit scary, though, because the rewrite opens the doors to all kinds of new and potentially huge bugs.) Plus, by joining SI he got access to their library of system code, and system programming always looked to me to be Markus' Achilles Heel.

The sound isn't going to be fixed, guys. Deal with it. There isn't going to be any H2H either. (And there's no Santa Claus to boot.)

Are you crazy? There could be children online.

By the way kiddies the Easter Bunny, Toothfairy, and all other fun creatures associated with holidays don't exist either.

Very true. Although I will no doubt be a sheep and stroll along with the herd when v7 comes out - it would be in all of us gamers best interest for Marcus, etc. to concentrate on perfecting (amap) v6. But, honest - and down and dirty - there's no money in it. And bottom line is - would any of us sit and program full time for free ? - I think not.

Agree nearly wholeheartedly with you here Mal. The sound is likely a system issue and a game simply can't be all things to all systems. Most do work and satisfying most is difficult enough in this industry.

But I hope we've learned some lessons from our experience with v6 and its subsequent patches. It's imperative on the release of v7, without malice, we sink our teeth firmly into aberrations and simply not let go until the issues are rightly and permanently addressed. There will no doubt be some debate about which issues are relevant and which arent', but ultimately ANY shortcoming that rears its head in the early stage of the new engine cannot be allowed to carry on into future versions with the confidence that the same we'll accept what we can get mentality will continue to prevail. I don't want ghosts in my closet long after the initial and exhaustive exorcism I expect to occur once a release is in the hands of this audience.

I'm on record as not advocating H2H or sound as necessary or redeeming features in this game. I don't find them essential or ultimately relevant to what comprises the essence of this gaming experience. But the everyday routines of play should unfold without consistent incident that requires the fan base to choose between ignore, rationalize, capitulate, or of necessity turn off otherwise attractive options.

And thank you for responding promptly in such a polite and logical manner.
