Stats do not accumulate?

I have noticed that in the box scores using historical leagues, the stats that are used for pitchers are NOT from the current game. For instance, it says Curt Schilling W (22-6) and show his ERA as 3.18 which was for the 2004 season. I also look up and see that all the players in the lineup use their final numbers for 2004. What is the situation here? Does it only do this for box score results? Would be great to track it all from game to game whenever you use it that way!

did you keep the current years stats possibly?
