Historical Fielding Pct.

Hello Folks, I've got a quick question for those who have played the new version and imported players from the 1870's through 1890's. When I was last playing OOTP (two years ago w/OOTP 6, 5 and 4), there was a long existing problem where poor fielders would import with the appropriate bad fielding pcts. (like 0.750) in their primary position. However, their secondary positions would be elevated automagically to 0.930 (or even higher) across the board if they were low as well. Does this still happen? A bad fielder in these eras make a lot of errors - and a historically inaccurate 0.970 (or even 0.990 for shortstops) could be the effective MVP of the OOTP league regardless of their hitting because of the effect on their team if other teams had poor and historically accurate fielders at the positions!

So to phrase the question as succinctly as possible. Do bad fielders (like less than 0.900 fielding pct. in all their positions) import with accurate fielding percentages for all their positions - not just their primary position?

If they do, hoo-wee, I'll start playing again!

Thanks for ANY info you can give me.

The game seems to normalize fielding onto a ratings scale. If anything I think it's making old time fielders unrealistically better, more in line with modern times. I also developed formulas to normalize fielding % against differing eras. I don't have them with me right now but could post them later on if your are interested.

Yes, they're much too good now.

Thank you for your reply! I posted this question just as the demo was coming out, so I've seen the new system. Yes, I agree they are too good, but you can set the error rate in the config files (which I saw in another post on historical fielding) to get better historical fielding results. This is a extremely major development for me - and I will be buying the game! The way I play I don't use real historical players, but I like to create a fictional world with the same overall statistical numbers of the real baseball history - so whether Ross Barnes comes in as a good fielder or not isn't important to me, but to somebody else it is! Rather it is more important to me that the pre-1900 game can be configured to have more errors.

It is funny reading through the posts here how some of us in the OOTP community have different "deal breakers" which can seem very irrational to somebody else and make them roll their eyes, but the deal breaker is very hard to get over for that person!
