Historical Managers

With the new coaching system, it is now possible to sign managers the way we do players. For my alternate history league, for instance, it would be really cool to let GMs sign Casey Stengel, Alvin Dark, Walter Alston, and Ralph Houk, or for a latter era LaRussa, Herzog, and Lasorda.

Does anyone have good data with which to create managing profiles for historical managers?

The obvious things to look at would be SB attempts, pinch AB, and SHs for batters, and innings/start and number of pitchers/games to come up with hook ratings and such. Parsing the managers tendencies from the team stats will be well-nigh impossible, but nevertheless it would be fun to have these guys in historical sims.

I thought about that before but it seem like it would mess the stategy up to much in prevoius versions of the game. I dont mind a manager like Herzog using the steal more but i dont want to see it overused in that players like Cecil Fielder are trying to steal too many bases. It would be nice to have different types of owners and the manager could only use his skills up to a point. i mean he cant have a power team if his team lacks power. He can try and develop the players but he has to work with what the team has given him.

I guess you could probably just use the manager with the most games managed in seasons in which a team had more than one manager. Either that or ignore that season.

This is really no different than the team strategies options in 6.5. Only if you are playing the game as a GM it is more realistic to have your manager decide game strategy.

The new game already has managers and coaches if you enable the coaching option. It would be a nice touch to add actual historical names to those managers.

In our league we would apply the same minimum criteria we use for batters and pitchers. Only managers who manage X number of games in real life would be available in the league.

I have a book somewhere, that I bought in the 90's. It had the game tendencies for the Top Managers from beginning of the 20th century to the end.

I think it had bullpen strategies, handle veterans. I dont have a website but I can post them on here relative to the game if that helps.

I'm in UK so it wont be until 9pm BST.
