Lefthanders in infield!

Here's a bug I haven't seen mentioned yet... The game creates lefthanded throwers who play 2B, SS, and 3B. AFAIK, this has not happened in real baseball since the 1800s or early 1900s. One example: in the MAL quickstart file, there is a lefthanded infielder in the San Francisco AA affiliate: Toshiharu Yamada. Previous OOTP versions haven't allowed this.

It's been in previous versions.

Is this so big a problem that you can live with crappy AI, so long as you have only righties in the infield?

The AI is a far bigger priority I would think, but this is a problem nonetheless. I just hope that this wasn't an intentional decision to allow lefty infielders just because of that debate about them a few weeks ago.

It's probably nothing more than a random occurrance.

I do not know if this is a bug or design choice.

The only way it's happened in previous versions is by training a LHT at an infield position, and they'd usually pull a range of '1.'

I've seen created left-handed third basemen and shortstops in 6 (at least) before.

EDIT: For example, http://kbl-ootp-online.com/reports/p509.html

I never taught him 3rd base, he was creating playing 2nd and 3rd.

There was a long thread on this topic prior the game's release. I imagine it must be a design choice.

I've seen them created in every version since OOTP4.

I would say that it is part of the AI (or what we would call 'business logic' at our company). So there are bigger AI issues but this should go on the list. I just dont understand how you screw this up unless you know nothing about baseball. Also wonder how the testers missed it. Im sure theres a table or if-then statement or something that says the odds of creating a lefty pitcher, a lefty first baseman, etc. I cant imagine making a game like this any other way. That would mean someone decided to have lefty infielders in the game.

So we already have a cool tool to edit pbp but were stuck with lefty 3Bs. Wtf.

How they throw in the game is cosmetic, for fielders it just doesn't matter. It doesn't reflect anything concrete. Therefore it just doesn't matter that it creates a lefty 3B... his ratings make a difference. It's a small issue that's just cosmetic. If they detail how being a lefty can help at 1B or how a lefty a 3B could be a problem then it would matter if his ratings are just as good as the opposite.
Right now, just doesn't matter. Cosmetic glitch. There's far bigger problems that aren't cosmetic, and this needs to be the last thing on the list to fix. But sure, it should be on the list.

And if your argument would be that there's then lefty hitting infielders because there's lefty throwing... think George Brett.

Let's assume that. Nevertheless, this creation is the foundation upon which later versions will be built. In a far distant future, if a 'design decision' is made to implement effect or fielding ratings based on hand, we don't want to be caught looking with premature non-chalance at this juncture. I agree in spirit, but caution you to regard the horizon in these evaluations.

I logged this as TT # 2154. I didn't put it as a high priority, though. Still, this at least ensures the "big man" will get to it at some point!
