Cannot Demote Major Leaguers

Since Patch 2, If I place a player out of minor league options on waviers and he clears waviers, I cannot send him to AAA. I receive an error message stating that he cannot be demoted because he has a major league contract.

Afail, I haven't been able to replicate this issue so far. Is this something you are seeing consistently?

Can you give me some more details about the situation? What are the specific steps you are taking, and what is the specific error message you receive?

Thanks,

Steve

My Process:

Joe Smith is out of minor league options AND past his arbitration years. Let's say he is on a 2 year contract at a $1M a year. I know that IRL a player can elect for FA in this situation.

The player is on the 25 Man Roster, I Designate him for assigment. Then I place him on waviers.

He clears waviers and I right click him to send him to AAA, where I receive that error message saying he can't go there because he is on a major league contract. If anything, it should say he is refusing the assignment, but this shouldn't occur everytime.

Is it saying that he can't go to the minors period, or is it saying he has a ML contract and must be on the 40-man. Putting him on the 40-man then moving him to the minors should work... unless he resfuses the assignment.

I believe Markus has or is fixing the ML contract must be on the 40-man, since we finally got worked out that he doesn't have to be... I don't know about if he's out of options he can't even go to the minors, hadn't heard of that one before.

Hmm, I just tried this with the latest patch (unreleased). I didn't get the error, but the game let me put him in AAA without an error. He didn't refuse the assignment.

I suspect your issue may be resolved, but it's kinda hard to tell...

Any further thoughts? Things I should try?

If you have a copy of your league from before you did this transaction, I'd be happy to grab it and try it.

I have a feeling he is getting the 40-man error tysok mentioned. I'm getting that as well. I have a guy with a ML contract that I put through waivers and DFA to open his spot on the 40-man. It won't let me assign him to the minors unless I put him back on the 40-man. It should let me assign him to the minors without putting him on the 40-man (but the player could opt out).

If he has a ML contract he has to be on the 40 man roster. It should not let you assign him to AAA without putting him on the 40 man.

No he does not, if you're able to get him passed through outright waivers.

I believe this is something that is said to be fixed in the upcoming patch. Let me find the issue real quick and I'll link it.

*Edit*

linky

Now, the beginning of the thread doesn't talk about this issue, but the issue was either merged in or brought up later in the process.

*sigh*

I just don't know if I can log a bug here. With Markus already touching this area of the game, I'm struggling with figuring out how to test whether this stuff is working in the latest patch.

Suggestions welcome.

I don't think you should log a bug...it apparently has already been logged & fixed (if you can't re-create it).

Any player with an ML contract "in OOTP" MUST be on the 40 man roster, regardless of what level he is at. Unfortunately OOTP does not have the "Outright" function built into the game.

See this thread for previous discussion on the topic - 40-man roster

Well, given that we're logging bugs here, it's rather confusing if you just matter-of-factly make a post like your previous one since it implies (at least to me) that you don't think it's wrong behaviour. (Especially if you follow up with something like "It should not let you assign him to AAA without putting him on the 40 man.", which even more clearly implies that you think this is correct.)

Anyway, the OP knows he can't demote players who have an ML contract (because the game is telling him as much), that's exactly why he's posting here in the first place.

Looking at the current changelist, I have a feeling the fixed bug that battists is talking about in that thread is only the "minor leaguers on the 40-man roster are given ML contracts" bug, but not the "no outrighting" bug...

If battists can't re-created in his version of the game (which I would assume is the current build of the patch), then it seems like it might be fixed.

No, I mean that there were two issues brought up in that thread, battists did not specify which one he was talking about, and only one issue (not the one discussed here) has shown up in Marc's changelist updates. Though, maybe I'm just getting ahead of things here, and it's gonna be listed in Marc's next update.

Late edit: Oh, you were talking about battists' post in this thread here...I see now. Well, I guess we'll know in a day or two.

I can't figure out what the heck I'm trying to replicate here, which is why I'm uncertain as to whether it's a bug or not!

It implies one thing and one thing only - in OOTP you can't take a player off the 40 man roster if he has a Major League Contract. Since this is an OOTP forum and we're talking about OOTP (at least I hope we are), I don't see how it implies anything else.

Restating the obvious qualifies as "entirely unhelpful" here in Tech Support, IMHO. And being ambiguous about whether you were talking about "how it works" or "how it's supposed to work" didn't exactly help to enlighten, either.

But if you do feel as though your initial post added something to the conversation or helped out the OP in some way, who am I to tell you any different.

Play nice, boys. I wouldn't want to sully my nice, increasing clean tech support forum with any OT/Gen Disc. nonsense.

I still state - if someone wants me to test something specific related to this issue, bring it on! Otherwise, I'll be shutting this one down...
