File size issues

Something very strange is happening with the file size for my online league, and I suspect it is indicative of some deeper problem.

When I first got the league transferred to OOTP2006 and added the photos and logos, the zipped file was approximately 54 MB in size. However, due to problems that various league members have had in downloading and exporting, I have imported several times without advancing a single day and each time the size balloons further... to 96 MB, then to 111MB, and now to almost 140 MB.

Understand, here, we are talking after zipping, and without advancing a single day. All I am doing is importing from the server and zipping up a new version of the league file on the same exact day.

(I might add that the imports take forever to bring in from the server, further suggesting that something is very wrong.)

I am linking the latest .zip of our league file, if someone official is willing to take a look. I honestly do not see how it could be anything but a bug of some sort. http://www.bemont.net/DDBalt.lg.zip

Having looked at the two most recent exports for DDB, the only file with a significantly changed size was scouting.dat, which jumped from 113MB to 189MB between the two exports.

152.7MB after simming just three days.

Is anyone else experiencing this with their online leagues?

As Gordy says, it is largely the scouting.dat file.

A GM found he couldn't get in due to password issues, so I deleted him as GM and recreated his as GM with a new password. The scouting.dat file increased some 10+MB from that alone.

Maybe I don't understand what all is involved here, but I am finding this crazy.

Beorn,

I logged this as TT # 2486. Hopefully, with Markus just getting back into things, this will hit his radar screen.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

First, thanks for noticing this.

Are other online leagues experiencing this?

One side effect: trying to start the saved game with a 200MB+ scouting.dat files can take 30 minutes or more. Not to mention the hour-plus that it takes to download such a large file every time the commish exports.

I am going to log this as a separate issue, but since I believe there may be a connection, I am putting it here, too.

Passwords seem to be disappearing. I set all teams to a password, with instructions to change it. Already, several reliable owners have reported that neither the original nor the changed password works.

The connection to file size: every time I have to fix a password, I have to delete a GM, and then recreate him. The scouting.dat file then jumps 10+ MB in size, implying that outdated information is not being deleted from the scouting.dat file.

This is the first I've heard of it, but I must admit, I'm more than a little behind on checking the tech support threads.

Beorn, could you please post the other issue in a separate thread as well, if you haven't already?

I have no clue why this could be happening... I have been testing it with a league of mine, and there were no changes in the scouting file. The code also suggests that there shouldn't, since scouting reports are always recycled, so when team A scouts player B, there is no new scouting report created but rather the old one overwritten...

I have the feeling your league file is somewhat messed up... if you're still having trouble, please email me at markus.heinsohn@sigames.com
