Releasing players w/ no penalty

I've been able to release players with big contracts in the offseason and not be charged with the remainder of their salary.

Well, I've been messing around with this and if it's the offseason prior to a player's last contract year, I can dump him free. But if he has more than one year left, I'm getting charged for the remaining years minus the one coming up. Anyone else?

Is it changing your overall payroll? Maybe the game is just having you pay that upcoming season as it goes?

No. I do it right at the beginning of the free agent period to free up some money to sign these guys. If I have a player making 15M and the game says that I have 25M to sign FAs, when I dump him I now have 40M.

So the player is signed through 2010, for example, and you are releasing him in January of 2010?

December 09. So, either it's adding it to the 09 payroll and clearing the books for 10 or it's just disappearing. Either way, it's not working the way it should.

I have logged this as TT # 68. Although this won't get addressed until 2007, we'll make sure we take a very close look at charges when players are released to ensure they're working properly.
