Bug: Trading a minor leaguer

I haven't found this here, but this seems like a pretty important bug to fix.

I completed a trade with another team in which one of the players sent to me was a minor leaguer who was out of options, playing with the other team's AAA club. Upon completing the trade, the player showed up in my Designated for Assignment window. When I went to put him in my AAA, I was told he had to clear waivers. Now, that's not right. He was a minor league player for the other team. He should not have to clear waivers there.

FWIW, this happened again with another player, so I think it's replicable. Anyone else seen this?

Was he on the other team's 40-man roster? I think if he is, he has to clear.

If that's the case, then it should be handled just as it was in 6.5.

If a major league player is traded, he's placed in DFA on the new team.
If a minor league player is traded who was on the 40 man roster of his previous team, he should be placed in the minor league level he was previously at and on the new teams DFA.

However, if the new teams 40 man roster is full, he'd then be in DFA and would have to be subject to waivers as you stated.

Perhaps that's the case?

I don't think that is correct. Humberto Sanchez, for example, was on Detroit's 40-man roster since November 2005 and he was traded to the Yanks in the Sheffield deal. He didn't have to clear waivers to be traded. If he was on waivers a team would have claimed him.

I wasn't trying to remove him from my 40-man roster. He was on it, since he actually had a major league contract and had to be. I was just trying to put him in the minors.

Yea, I was thinking ctorg wasn't placing him on the 40-man.

I have not been able to reproduce this. However, I will keep a look out for this one during the beta for 2007 to make sure it does not come up.

Make sure one of the players is a minor leaguer who is out of options.
