Foreign Players Limits not working as intended

I try to set up a limit on foreign players where a team can have at most 5 foreign players, of which at most 3 pitchers.

so I set Foregin Players Limit to 5, Foreign Pitchers Limit to 3, and Foreign Hitters Limit to no limit.

But now a team can have as many hitters he like even if he get above 5 players in total. I have teams with up to 8 foreign players on their active roster at the moment.

i believe you need to have foreign pitchers+batters = foreign players allowed total. so if your total limit is 5, you should have batters limited to 3, pitchers to 2, or vice versa.

maybe we need to look at this again for its functionality, seems a bit awkward. if you set total to 4 for example, i would think you should be able to set pitchers and hitters to limit to 4 as well and not have the AI interpret that as an 8 player limit.

You have to be able to set an overall limit witthout explicitly setting a nr of pitchers and hitters limit, what if I want to only allow 1 foreigner, and want it o be either a pitcher or a hitter, then it can't be done the way it's working now.

Besides setting no foreigners allowed don't work at all either, since then you can't even chose th pitcher and hitter limits, but they seem to be set at no limits, so in fact you can have as many as you want. And that defenitly isn't intended

Bobbert is right about this. In real life the China League allows (if I remember correctly) eight foreign players per team, but doesn't limit how many of those eight can be pitchers or position players. The game needs to be able to reflect that.

Some more details on this one. As it seems completly broken.

Initial set-up:
Foregin-player limit: 5
Max-number of foreign pitcher: 3
Max-number of foreign hitters: 3

The 5 is now completly useless as a team can have pitchers and 3 batters on the roster at the same time

Also the AI can't seem to handle foreign players very good, here is an example of a foreign player who won the Rookie of the year award

11-02-1902 Received a 1-year contract worth a total of $380,000 through automatic renewal.
01-01-1903 SISA scouting updated ratings (potential): Contact: 3 (4); Power: 4 (5); Eye: 4 (5).
02-11-1903 Released by the Örebro Hillcats.
02-23-1903 Signed a 1-year contract worth a total of $4,230,000 with the Örebro Hillcats organization.
04-23-1903 Released by the Örebro Hillcats.

And then in september when the roster expansion took place he signed with Örebro once more.

So I decided to turn off the foregin player limit.

I set the foreign player limit to 0. And in that process the options to seelect limits for pitchers and hitters naturally disapeares. The big problem here is that these are not reset. And is still at 3 each. And very much limiting the number of foreigners.

So I had to set foreign-players limit back to something larger than 3 and setting the pitcher and hitter limit to no limit before turning off the overall limit to get it to work properly.

I'm not sure if this should be a separate thread or not, but this is related to the foreign player limit problems.

Along with the foreign player limit problem mentioned here, there is also the issue with the behavior of teams with foreign player limits that have minor league affiliate.

1) Minor league affiliates have no limit to the number of foreign players they can sign, even if the major league affiliate has a limit. It would be good to have the option to also set a foreign player limit in the minors as well.

2) The AI of teams in leagues w/foreigner restrictions that have minor league affiliates is screwy. For example, I'm simming a few seasons with a Japanese system (two leagues, majors and AAA) with a 4 foreign player limit and a concurrent American league system (full leagues). Since there is no limit to signing foreign players and stocking them on the minor league team, AI teams seem to be signing the best available players, regardless of the nationality of the player. What ends up happening is that these clubs will have a major league club with only 4 foreigners, but they fill their minor league club with foreigners, getting rid of young domestic players. This ends up causing depth problems, as the foreign minor leaguers likely won't get called up, but they take playing time from the domestic players that have a better chance of getting called up.

A possible solution is to either have optional foreign player limits for the minors, or to develop the AI such that it values domestic players more in leagues with foreign player limits.

If this could be addressed, this would be great, since it makes playing in foreigner-limited leagues with minor league affiliates (e.g. Japan) very unrealistic.

Something else that isn't working with foreign player limits

As noted above, minor leagues aren't following the roster limits and its resulting in some great foreign talent being stashed in minors. Also, leagues without minors have lots of talented foreign players on their reserve roster. Just doesn't make sense to me why these players would sit on a reserve roster vs being signed by a MLB or independant club (I have 4 indy leagues in my universe based in the US).
