#3 overall prospect gets waived!

This is pretty questionable AI as I'm only 20+ days into my league and lucky me to find the #3 prospect waived already. A bargain 17 year old getting paid only 380k. The kid is angry but there's no reason to waive this guy just for that; why not just trade him then?

Here's a few screenies:

I think also he should of just had a minor league deal to start with since the game doesn't use signing bonuses during drafts anyways.

Just wondering...are you playing with scouts on? I noticed his ratings were SISA based on your first screen...perhaps they are actually very low when 'seen' by a better scout?

Was their 40-man roster full? You are sure that this player was waived before being released? Do you know if he was on their active roster before being waived, if so? The transaction logs for the team would indicate the answers to some of these questions.

All I know is Pat Smith was waived, nobody claimed him then was released. Fremont obviously knew this guy is a stud for signing him a day or so later.

They basically waived the #3 prospect to make room for who? Probably somone who had ratings because he got placed in a level far too good to begin with.

Since the game just started I'm guessing the AI had him on the ML roster and maybe he was out of options so they waived him then decided to make room for something else who had some ratings.

What do you think?

Could you possibly post a screenshot of the team transaction log for Jan and Feb 2000?

I wish I could but I'm already into next year.

I think the combination of bad player morale (to a player who shouldn't really have any say) and the fact that no 17 year old should even be near a ML roster especially with no ratings makes for weird happenings.

I know a problem that the old OOTP used to have (if I remember correctly) was the first 25 players that were drafted automatically went on the 25 man roster, and then as different players were drafted later, you had tons of players go through waivers and cuts so that they could put the best players on the active roster...could this possibly be the case? I don't know, it's just a suggestion.

EDIT: The guy was cut, not waived. Who knows then.

I think this is it.

Also btw, the player was "angry" for some reason. Remember the league had just started and either the AI demoted him causing him to get angry and traded him since he had a ML contract after being on the roster in the first place.
