Strange substitutions
After seeing TT 3530 and seeing what happened in a box score in a game I simmed I'm not sure if this is related or not but I saw some very weird substitutions in a game that NYN won 4-2. Namely in the top of the 9th leading 4-1 the computer manager pinch hit for the 7,8, and 9 batters consecutively. I can understand some of the motivation behind pinch hitting for the 8 and 9 batters but the number 7 batter was the catcher and it set off a weird chain of events. FYI my settings for pinch hitting for batters are at the normal settings and I think I simmed this game with the beta patch (it was either that or the official 2.0.2 but I'm not 100% sure).
What happened was after the inning ended my backup catcher apparently entered the game and then for no reason at all proceeded to leave the game thereby leaving me with no backup catcher. Then in the method of the computer doing a double switch I ended up with a random fielder catching the bottom of the 9th inning with no other catchers on my bench. I'll attach two screenshots to show some of what I mean: You can see that Field went in to catch and then left again immediately. It doesn't even show up in the game log but he was no longer available. A few questions: 1) Why would the AI pinch hit for the catcher in a game I am leading 4-1 in the 9th inning? I could understand it more if I was down and the catcher was not a great hitter. 2) Similarly I'm not sure why they pinch hit for the shortstop either. The offensive ratings of the two players are fairly similar and Lopez is my best defensive shortstop. The depth chart doesn't list a defensive sub at all for SS. I would be more forgiving again if I was trailing at the time. 3) Why did it bring in my backup catcher (in the catcher's slot which is good) and then immediately bench him thereby leaving me with no backup catcher at all and facilitating an awful double switch that put my backup outfielder at the catcher position? This doesn't even show up in the game log. In the end my closer closed the game and all was well but especially if this had gone to extra innings it would have been a completely foolish move on the part of the AI and I cannot quite comprehend why it felt the need to try to empty my bench in a fairly close game that I was winning in the 9th inning. Your backup catcher Field didn't get somehow injured, did he? Certainly doesn't look like it. Verify that he didn't and I'll get this logged. I agree that it makes no sense.

I see no sign of an injury in his player history, the boxscore of the game, or news. As best I can tell he never actually played in the game; it was kind of like when a pinch hitter gets announced and then they swap the pitcher and you put in a new pinch hitter and lose the first one... except not quite the same circumstance. Not sure why the AI would do it this way.
