Unretiring after a game save
If a game is saved and then you unretire a player that player has 0 or 1 in all the batting and pitching stats apart from BABIP.
If you unretire a player who has retired since the last game save he gets his stats back. I don't know if this has been reported yet, but the reason behind it is that the retired.dat file does not store pitching and batting and fielding ratings apart from BABIP (this was a new field added in 2007 and is at the end of the player record, not in the normal rating area of the player). Either retired.dat should hold the last ratings of the player or the missing ratings should be recalculated from the league average ratings. Also a retired player only appears against the league he retired in, so if you put a superstar down to AAA in his last match and he retires after, he'll appear on the AAA retired player list. This list should be universal and filterable by class. |

I believe that not saving player ratings for retired players (stats are maintained) was a conscious design decision for performance reasons.
You are suggesting that these players should get entirely new ratings when unretiring them? You'd end up with an entirely different player than the one who retired. If you mean to suggest that the ratings get recalucated based upon previous stats and the league average ratings, there's still the matter of age to deal with. Defensive ratings, speed, endurance, injury ratings, etc ... these all aren't kept and couldn't be properly regenerated. From what I can determine, players are found in the Retired Players lists of any league they previously played in. Are you certain that that is not also the case for you? |

It's more in the case where you sim through to a new pre-season and a player retires in the off-season and you unretire them. The BABIP ratings are recreated but everything else is 0 or 1. For someone who may have retired a couple of months ago as an out-of-work superstar (for whatever reason) it's a bit harsh being booted back to 0 and 1. Injury Ratings are there in a retired player, whether they're populated is another matter. I haven't delved into the data that much. I think you're right about the lists they appear in - I did my sums wrong. |

I'm happy to log it for you, as I can certainly see how this makes the unretire feature considerably less useful. Maybe some sort of compromise measure could be taken to extend the period during which the ratings of these players are saved.
