Player Retires, Signs Extension then Hall of Fame

I suppose you could say this is remotely realistic (as the player was Roger Clemens) but using patch 2.02, this just happened in a sim-2007 season:

Roger Clemens announces in June that he will retire at the end of the year.
Roger Clemens signs two year contract extension in July.
Roger Clemens elected to Hall of Fame (retires again) at the end of this season.

That it was Clemens made it funny because it sounded like the real thing but the problem I have is with the apparent extension signed within a month of announcing his retirement. I suppose it's because he was still good enough to pitch in the game despite his age but shouldn't it then skip the retirement?

Anyway, just wanted to post in case there's a bug involving really old players who are still good enough to play.

I've seen the opposite happen- a player announces he will retire, I offer an extension, and then the player doesn't retire at all. In my case, it made sense; just to see what happened, I offered a 10 year, $260 million dollar deal to a declining 42 year old pitcher. I wouldn't have retired either!
