Contract Extension AI Problem
Version: 2.0.2.53
PC/MAC: PC (and perhaps Mac - It's an online league) What were you doing? Offering contract extensions to players before either auto-renewal or arbitration eligibility has expired, even to minor-league players. What happened? Players are accepting ridiculously low amounts of money for extensions. See here, for one example in our league. Reproducible? Yes. With multiple players over multiple leagues (via solo testing). Problem occurs with other leagues? Yes. At least one other online league we know of is experiencing this. Kind of a potential stumbling boulder for online leagues, at the very least.

Well, it's not a majority of players who are accepting these contracts, so it's a little harder to pinpoint exactly why or how this is happening. Once again, this may be a conversion issue. We've got all our contract extension offers on hold till mid-season in order to find out.
Try this thread: http://www.whbl.org/main/showthread.php?t=16395 edit: More specifically, I do have one more example. It's harder without historical statistics to make sense of, but it's a potential data point, nonetheless. http://www.whbl.org/reports/news/htm...ayer_3299.html Also happened in this league, which is how it came to my attention, through a mutual GM. http://wbh.allsimbaseball3.com/ Also possible in Shane's league, though I can't remember if that's the case.

Nutlaw, I've also posted to our forums, asking for help from anyone who understands the problem a little better than myself. If any of our GMs can help with more details, I'm hoping they'll post here.

Now that I'm looking for it, I saw a guy in the on-line league I play in sign a pair of 40ish range OVR players with 1-2 years pro experience to a five year contract extension worth $400,000 per year. They'd beat that in arbitration, much less free agency. Added that note to the TT.

Good. This has already been a pretty big problem in one online league, and could be a 'situation' in any online environment, if allowed to persist.
Thank you for keeping your eyes peeled. |
