Corrput Messages Files!!!!!

There is a possible bug with viewed messages and the message .dat file. It seems after running a league for 12-14 years the news viewer writes over older news. Particularly when deleting a league in-game this seems to corrupt the message .dat file. This results in news line items overlapping each other.

A quick and dirty resolution was that I had to delete the messages folder and messages .dat file. However, I lose all my messages for my league

I was able to duplicate this problem by creating a new game and setting up a new league running it for a few years then deleting affiliated minor league teams. This resulted in the same issue.

I was able to recreate the problem with a new game. I think the problem has something to do when deleting leagues within a game. The old messages from the deleted league may somehow corrput the .dat file. Just a hunch.

I believe this issue should be TT'd.

FYI- I have selected the save and keep all news items option in my game.

That looks weird. I can't imagine there being that small a limit on a list view box in Windows, and the ID field for the messages file is a 32 bit integer so you fundamentally could have several billion messages before the IDs roll over.

It certainly appears to be a graphical error rather than a database one. I wonder if there's a character in one of the messages that the screen is interpreting differently.

No I don't think that's it. I deleted the messages .dat file and the messages folder and still arrive at the same result after simming 13+ years. This occurs in the league news/ read news section of the viewer.

I'm very sorry your issue has sat here for so long without a response. Us volunteers are a little on the burnt-out side right now! That's not an excuse, though, but let's see if we can make some progress, if you're still around after all this time...

Yes, I am still experiencing this problem. I play solo leagues, on PC.

To help things along my system specs are as follows:

SYSTEM SPECS
Dell XPS Gen laptop
Processor: Intel processor 2.00 GHz
Hardrive: 100 gig
Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX
RAM: 2 gig
OS: Windows XP


Anyway, this problem seems to occur even with newly created games. As a test I created a new game file with a 16 team fictional league within the new game. I selected to keep all messages (news, transactions, injury logs) after simming 12-13 seasons as a test run I encountered the same problem. So I do not think this has anything to do with deleted leagues.

It appears that within the news module/all messages section, messages overlap. Overlap also occurs in unread messages and SION news sections of the news modules. Overlap does not occur within the general messages and contracts sections of the news module. As you may know transaction news is not generated within the news module.

In viewing this problem it seems that the older messages overlap with the newer ones as these modules are designed to only keep messages from the past 3-4 seasons. As another test within the edit news option, I deleted the newer message and the older message still appeared but I could not directly access the message within the game, outside of actually going to the message folder directory within explorer.

So there you have it. Let me know if you need anything else. I hope that this problem can be addressed before the next patch!

The grid cannot handle that many entries, so I suggest changing the news setting to delete news after a few years.

A simple answer to what I thought was a complex issue....

It would be great to have the almanac archive news stories in the future.
