Game Crash when promoting scouts

When I attempt to promote a scout to fill a vacant position in the majors my game is crashing. It happens every time. I can reproduce the error for you if you like as I'm stuck at that point.

Also that game won't let me hire a new scout unless I'm in commish mode. It just gives me the option to shortlist unless I switch to commish mode.

Thanks.

I saw a similar report here:

Online League - Promoting a Scout

Are you also using the latest patch? (2.0.3.68)

Is this happening in more than one league?

Are you currently in the regular season or not? Does it seem to make a difference?

Were you ever able to promote scouts or hire them (outside of commish mode) in this league?

Yes

Is this happening in more than one league?

No I only have one fictional league. If you like I'll start a test league.

Are you currently in the regular season or not? Does it seem to make a difference?

I had just finished the post season (won the championship thank-you very much!!). I have two scouts that left my major league team and have a couple vacancies of personel at the Single A level. Until about halfway through this season I had been running in commisioner mode, but decided I wanted to change it and attempted to run it with it off. I first noticed an issue after the championship game when I went to take care of some vacancies of my scouts. When I tried promoting my guy from AAA the game crashed. Also when I looked at avialable free agent personnel it only allowed me to shortlist them. When I switched back to commish mode it allowed me to sign them. The game only crashes when I try to promote guys up from the minors to be major league scouts. It happens every time.

Were you ever able to promote scouts or hire them (outside of commish mode) in this league?

I have been able to promote in the past. The only changes I have made are the installation of the patch, a switch halfway through the season to turn off commish mode and an installation of the new news stories. I'll run a test league if you want and see if it happens again. Also can send the league file if you want. I can also give the windows error report.

Thanks!

Please do try to reproduce in a new league and give the error report.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to copy and past the error code. Probably a good thing as its huge! If you know how I can do that let me know and I'll do it for you. Gonna go and try to reproduce in a new league now.

Yup, happened again, first try. Brand spanking new season. I did switch from commish mode to non-commish mode at the All-Star game again. Doubt it makes a difference.

Nutlaw,

I just wanted to add that my online league found this bug last night when a AA manager was being promoted to the majors to become the major league maanger.

Hadn't this been claimed fixed before? Well, it's not working in version 8.0.0.13.

The workaround for this is to "swap" rather than promote.

For example, if you have a bench coach vacancy at the ML level and want to promote your AAA hitting coach to the position, the game will crash if you select the AAA hitting coach and try to move him to the empty spot.

However, given that you'll likely fill the AAA hitting coach spot with a newly hired guy, go ahead and hire that guy into the ML bench coach position and then "demote" him to the AAA hitting coach role. The two men will "swap" positions, and you'll be all set.

My guess is this bug is caused by the vacant position, as I've never had a problem swapping coaches among levels, but, like the rest of you, cannot promote lower level coaches to vacancies at the parent level.

CBBL, Ive had the same problem as well. only most of the time, the personnel in question (in my case, it's a pitching coach i wanna promote to ML level) when i go to swap, the current ML coach refuses to be demoted, so i simply fire him and try to promote my AAA coach and the game crashes.

Also, another thing i find a little irritating, is that in the person menu (when i right click the personnel name in a minor league where you can promote him from there) the only options available to move the coach is either to the ML level, or to any other personnel slot within that particular team's staff slots.

I have a hitting coach with excellent rating for handling rookies who is in my low-A team. There doesnt seem to be an option to move him from SA to AAA, where most of my good young talent is, that i would like to have get developed with this particular coach.

sorry if that last thing was alread logged, i never looked for it, but seemed to me to be kind of tied in with the promoting crashes.
