BZ 1695: OOTP8 to OOTP9 conversion

Now, there's a bunch of threads about conversion being slow. It's not an OOTP issue, though. However, I'm wondering if this might be. I run an online league, and wanted to test it in OOTP9. So, I did . However, there seems to be something odd about player history. It seems that for players who were there before 2023 (which, I'm guessing, is the season in which we switched from 2006 to OOTP 2007, since I know for a fact that 2021 was the year we converted to 2006, and I don't know what else could've happened at that point) have a problem with their history - see screenshot (note that the text continues on the right - I had to crop the size so I could attach it here). This happens for every player who was in the league prior to 2003 - for more recent ones, everything looks perfect. I went back in my OOTP8 file to check if there was something different with the formatting (an extra space, or something), and there wasn't.

Is anyone having the same issue? Is there a workaround? (I'd really hate to spend hours and hours editing every player's history).

I've imported a few of my online leagues during beta and never ran into this.

Any of them date back to OOTP 2006? (Note: I converted from OOTP 2006 for PC to OOTP 2007 for PC, and from OOTP 2007 to OOTP8 for Mac, and I now use OOTP9 for Mac. Our league started in OOTP5. I converted to 6.0, 6.5, 2006, 2007 and 8, and used the same league to test OOTP9. I didn't see anything like this.

One of my GMs tested this league in Windows, and says the problem didn't come up.

Another problem I am having is this. When I first tried to import, I went only with the .dat files to make it quick. However, OOTP would crash upon generating player pictures, for some reason. So, I imported with the player pictures intact. It works fine - I can change ethnicity, I can generate a new picture, it's all swell. But, the game crashes when I try to generate the same picture, or if I want to change a guy's beard. This is most inconvenient, as players will change teams pretty often, I assume. Forcing an update also crashed.

I'm hesitant to post an unsecured league file since it's an online league and I'd rather my owners not get access to the commish side of things, but if testers want to take a look at my files, I'll see what I can do. if you want to test it out outside commish mode, though, the OOTP8 (mac) file is available here, although it's apparently clean under OOTP9 for PC.

No one's had a problem with these two issues, importing text files and updating existing faces crashing the game?

I've had crashes from photo generation in my 8-9 franchise, which runs on a mac. I've disabled photo generation to keep the game running, but it kind of sucks to have AAAers in their AAA uniforms while playing for a ML team.

Well, I'm partly glad to see it's just not me having this issue. It would be nice if it could be fixed somehow.

Hi, I have the same "squished history" problem on a mac. It only seems to happen on players that have long histories though.

EDIT: It's from a league created in OOTP8.

Again, I've done converion after conversion and never ran into this. Can you give anymore details?

Hi, I noticed something when looking at the history files.

For the items that are squished, there's no space after the date string. It's the same with LLN's. I'm not sure what that means, just noticed it.

As for the faces, well, it seems Windows users are getting this too, and it's been documented elsewhere, and frankly my hopes aren't too high. Maybe it has something to do with the new Hispanic faces, but I really don't have a clue.

As for the scrunched up histories, I'll attach a few players' OOTP8 and OOTP9 text files, if you want to take a look. I don't see anything weird in the files themselves, in fact even the OOTP9 text files look super clean - it's only in-game that they show up weird. The text files have a tab after the date all the way through, even after 2023. It seems as though the problem appears only with players who were active both before and after 2023, and it always screws up either on the first line of 2023, or the one right before. I've had two of my GMs import the league, one in Windows and one in Mac. The one in Mac had the same problem I did, but the one in Windows claims he doesn't have that problem. If you want to import my league, you can find the file here (you can login as Anonymous Guest, and the players whose histories I am bringing up are Larry Creger, Ian Worang and Thomas Julien). and I don't know what more details I can give you, but I'll gladly offer anything I can .

The problem arises only when players have data both before and after 2023. The
problem always appears on the first or second 2023 news item. Here is a series
of test I tried on player 1043 (the text file is available above):

1. Delete 2021 news items: FAIL.
2. Delete 2022 news items: FAIL.
3. Delete 2023 news items: FAIL.
4. Delete 2021 and 2022 news items: PASS.
5. Delete 2022 and 2023 news items: FAIL.
