BZ 1327: Missing Buttons Returns

With ootp8 I had a problem with buttons disappearing in the player list screens like Waivers, Free Agents, etc. Well, it transferred to version 9. Not a crucial issue (I've been playing with it for months.), but did want to log it in. Can be frustrating at times.

I saw this during beta but couldn't consistently reproduce it nor could Markus.

Please add as much detail as you can to this thread so Markus can reproduce it.

i've seen this issue in 8 as well. Not yet in 9. I've never been able to find a pattern to recreate this but I know it needs to be fixed (if it can be found)

I've not been able to reproduce it consistently, but with ootp8 it had become common. It rarely happens when I first start, so long play time may be a contributor. Funny thing is, once it starts, it keeps up but keeps hopping. One time it's the Filter, then the Position, come back and they're good, come back again and any one of the three is gone. (Don't remember the View button going out much if at all.)

It can occur on any screen that has those buttons, including in-team screens. The workaround is to change screens. Changing between screens with the same buttons (Waivers, Free Agents, All Players) tends to switch the missing button but not fix the problem. Trade is excellent because it doesn't have those buttons, but there's not guarantee it will fix it.

I'm using a Vista system with 2 gig of RAM and a Centrino Dual Core processor. And the more I think about it, the more it seems that the problem rarely if ever occurs on startup, but only after extended gameplay.

This drives me absolutely nuts some times and I think you're spot on that it's not a problem at start but gets to be one the longer the game is running. Would this lead one to believe it's a memory issue?

Memory allocation issue, yes. Due to machine challenges, I've run the game on this computer with 1G of RAM, 1G of RAM + a 2G stick, 2G of RAM, and 2G of RAM + a 2G stick, and it has happened with all.

Noticed something last night. The issue didn't occur at all yesterday until I'd been at it for a LONG time (off and on). When I turned the game off for dinner, then turned it back on (but hadn't rebooted), it returned much more quickly.

Bug Update

The missing button problem has suddenly migrated to the Game Play screen. When I try to do an in-game substitution, sometimes the Player button is missing (the one that lets me show only Batters or only Pitchers). So far the workaround has been pretty quick, but it could be quite a hangup if late in a game I can't pull a pitcher because it will only show me my batters. <Headline: Sting Lose World Series When Starter Left in for 200 Pitches>

Potentially Interesting Subpoint. Not sure if I can reproduce it, but it *seemed* like the last time it happened, when I clicked where the button should have been it returned. That never worked when the problem was on the Free Agent or Waiver Wire screens.

I'm not sure what else to say. You're using version 9.1.2? Have you tried other screen resolutions or switching from full screen to windowed or vice versa, or tried other skins?

It's followed me across computers, operating systems (XP & Vista), and game versions. I guess I could try different screen resolutions. I do use a wider screen laptop and never play fullscreen, if that matters. (Okay, can't play fullscreen on a widescreen laptop, at least not this one.)
