BZ 1537: Odd Bug...

Hey, loving OOTP9 greatly, only found one minor little annoying detail so far. When using the backspace key to return to a previous screen, it sometimes does nothing. Instead, the effect of returning to a previous screen is sometimes delayed until after i have opened and closed a menu. This has been a very repeatable bug. I'm using the windows version, running on windows XP Pro service pack 3.

Can you please give an example of the screens you are referring to? Could they possibly be sub-tabs within the same screen?

I'm finding the exact same problem. It seems to happen with all screens. Sometimes the backspace will work fine, and sometimes there will be a long delay (~30 sec) before the screen changes.

I also have XP SP3.

Just a clarification. The backspace arrow on the game screen works fine. The problem is the backspace key on the keyboard.

I've had the backspace problem occur on just about every screen, but it seems more prevalent on player profile screens. The arrows within the game work fine, never had an issue with those. it seems to be unique to the backspace key. Basically it works fine for several screens, then I'll hit backspace once and nothing happens. If i open and close any menu, the backspace immediately occurs, and I'm back a screen. It almost seems as if it's delayed until you do something else within the game.
After this, the backspace key will continue to work fine for several more screens, and then possibly minutes later i'll get the same sort of stuck result from it.

Just had it happen again, and thought i'd record everything i did leading up to it. I had simmed a single day, and recieved a notice that i had a personal email. Went to the email box and noted a trade offer. Clicked on the link for the player offered, and spent 30 seconds or so looking over the player. Hit the backspace key to take me back to email, but nothing happened. I waited approximately 1 minute to see if it would resolve on it's own. It did not, so i opened and closed the "action" menu on the player screen. Immediatly after closing, the game went back to email and further backspaces work fine for a while.

Interesting. I can't reproduce this issue, however, and I'm also using XP.

How much RAM do you guys have?

Hrm. That's plenty.

Does it happen in multiple leagues?

I have 2 gigs of ram as well. Tested it on another league, and got the same result. Both leagues are standard mlb 2008 leagues. It seems to be occuring most frequently when dealing with email trade offers. Every time i recieve one and click on a player link from within it, i get the same effect. It's happened on other screens, but for me it's 100% reproducable when dealing with trade emails.

I just had this problem with the backspace key not responding until I went to a menu and then it immediately went back to the previous page.

I think I know what's happening. I noticed that the focus got moved (not by me!) to the search bar up top so the backspace key does nothing while in that bar. To test this the next time it happens to you, start typing some letters in and see if they appear in the search bar.

It's a similar issue as some web pages have. You hit the backspace key expecting to go back a page and instead find it doesn't work because of a flashing cursor in some text box somewhere which makes the backspace key do nothing but erase, but of course, there's nothing to erase so nothing at all happens.

I just tested the search bar becoming the focus theory, and this is indeed occurring. When i clicked a player link in a trade email, the screen changed to the player screen, and the focus did indeed go up to the search bar. Typing random letters resulted in letters showing up in the search bar.

This has been marked as something that will be addressed at a later time.
