BZ 1720: Saving Ruins Rosters

So, I mentioned this in the thread about crashing with saving and loading, but I thought I had resolved the problem. Turns out I hadn't.

Almost every time I save a game and then load that game later, it turns out that all my players have changed. So, for example, I'll have players X Y and Z when I save a game. I'll leave the game and start it up again later, loading that same game. When I load the game, I no longer have X Y and Z, but A B and C. On my team's main page, the leaderboard reflects their correct names and stats, but when I open player profiles the names and everything are incorrect. Also, when I click on players (with the incorrect names), it takes me to player profiles of *yet another set* of different players. This makes the game essentially unplayable for me, for obvious reasons. I've tried a couple of things, but nothing seems to work. I really like the new scouting system, so I want to fix this, but I'm tempted to abandon this version and go back to OOTP 2007. I'm just having too many problems.

Can someone fix this and prevent my head from exploding?

Can you follow the instructions in the thread "How to FTP your files to us" and somebody will have a look at your saved game file.

Could you post in here the names/teams of some of your players that should be on your team when you open the game up?

The files are named "rosterproblem."

My team is the Dodgers. For instance, my catcher should be Russell Martin. In his place on the lineup screen is Adam LaRoche, only when I right click on his name, it says Gordon Maltzberger. When I click "open player profile," it comes up as Linc Blakely. James Loney should be at first base, but instead it's Luis Ayala/Grover Lowdermilk/Joe Beimel. And so on and so on. As I noted, the leaderboard on the team's main page has correct players and stats, but the links to player profiles are also screwy. As you can see, I also have Hong Chi Kuo at SS and Jonathan Broxton at LF. They should be pitchers, and are the only players who should actually be on the team. Of course, when I click on them, they show up as other people.

I'll be happy to give you any more information you need, because this happens nearly every time I save the game.

And it's happened again, in a "new" league (which was basically my old league, but after restoring from a backup). On the bright side, the messed up player names are getting even more interesting: e.g. "NULL Macy." So, you know, there's that.

Any luck, lads?

same issue

I've having the same issue (see the post "roster/players wrong") - rosters are all wrong, player links going to the wrong players. It began when the game crashed during a save. I'm not sure if this happens to la2355 also, but now my game will always crash (generic message) within a few clicks or if I try to advance time. Also, the finalizing stage of the load takes several minutes to complete.

This is the PC version, on XP, new MLB game. Over 30 gig of free space, de-fragged, and have done several re-installs with the new version without it being resolved.

Yes, mine crashes when I try to advance time. I can usually navigate around okay, but trying to play or sim games at all will cause a crash.

Game crash during save results in wrong rosters on reload

I was using the 9.0.27 version of software on Windows XP. I was using a historical setup using the Pittsburgh Pirates. I started with the 2008 season and now on the 2009 season. Today I made allot of roster moves by move allot of players from the lower minor leagues up into the mid to higher leagues; also traded a few players on the same day. I was running a manual save and got the following error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000

0048: 30 65 37 35 64 34 0d 0a 0e75d4..

The game exited but when I launched the game, and looked at my rosters most of my players where all wrong. I had player on my team I never had before and some players that had last name of UNKNOWN.

More details:
1. I don't know 100% what screen I was on but, it was either the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor league system report, a pitching order setup for a minor league team or the standings page for the league.
2. During the save process, the progress bar of the save appeared to be at the half way point when it crashed.
3. Running Windows XP - SP2 with 2.1ghz cpu and 2gb of memory.
4. If you need a system info with the game loaded, I can send one.

Since my rosters are really screwed up, I'm assuming there is nothing I can do. A little disappointing since I spent allot of time since the game came out playing my league. If anyone has any idea how to get my rosters back to the orginal setup before the crash that would be awsome.

This is a great game so I hope we can get this fixed.

A few additional items:

1. Dr. Watson attached below. This should tell you system state during the crash.
2. I can save without any problems now after the crash but the rosters are all messed up.
3. This is a sole play league.
4. I'm only 6 games into the 2009 season and started with 2008.
5. Running 2008 MLB all-in-one mod, Mlb/Milb logos

My only assumptions related to the crash is, I made allot of roster moves prior to the save and maybe this is why it crashed.

There's another report of this same issue in the thread "Game crash during save results in wrong rosters on reload".

I know it hasn't been too long, but any update on the situation, Tony M?

Same issue for me. Originally an "unable to load database" error message. I deleted the messages.dat file as Marcus suggested on another thread and it worked for a short while until there was a game crash. After the crash, it loads but the rosters are all messed up. Even my league backup from before the crash does this.

Just noticed you incorrectly closed my original thread that reported my issue. I believe you closed it because I mentioned the messages.dat issue, which you say will be patched in the next update. However, the primary problem was not the messages.dat issue, but rather the problem with incorrect rosters/players.

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ers-wrong.html

Any update that you can provide us? The folks experiencing the problem cannot play the game without starting over, and even then, there's no guarantee it won't just happen again.

Thanks.

I don't know if this will help, but I just saw okyjoe2000's post above, and right before the crash (during a save) that apparently destroyed the rosters, I also had been making numerous roster moves throughout my organization (getting my roster organized for the Rule V draft).

Maybe the code can't handle an excessive amount of roster moves?

I just logged this particular issue yesterday, so no update on it yet. I'll let you know as soon as I hear something.

Any game that crashed during a save is likely destroyed, I'm sorry to say.

I'm sorry, but I'm told that these files were damaged beyond repair. They cannot be used to reproduce the problem.
