BZ 1761: "could not load world file"

I'm having the same issue as this thread, except im not a Mac user:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...-mac-user.html

Pretty much the same circumstances also. Was doing a forced save. NO power outage though, program just stop responding and had to be shut down.

Sadly this is not a new issue. I've lost 3 leagues with this same problem (I've been using OOTP5 for a LONG time, so didn't bother going anywhere with it.)

When it happened i was using 9.0.27, have since upgraded to 9.1.2. But it had the same results after restarting with both versions. Like i mentioned, not using a mac, on regular PC.

Its a fictional league, MLB based though. AAA - rookie ball + Japanese Major league.

I think thats all the info you requested!

Buhner,
I am replying to keep your thread akive.
I have had this exact same thing happen numerous times with the same set up you describe. There are several threads here describing the same thing. Sadly there has been no responce either way from the developers. There seems to be enough evidence here that the problem is inside the game and perhaps Markus and others just don't know what it could be but at least some acknowledgment of that would sure make me feel better about it. Any paying customer deserves that.
Twice now I have wiped my hard drive clean of OOTP and put in a fresh install. Did this again this morning so I am not giving up and keep hoping something will happen. BTW, I usually sim day to day or weekly with occasional monthly simming because I like to get my hands into all the detail of management and I do love this detail. The longest I have gone before the dreaded file corruption occurs is 2 1/2 seasons. Good luck to you.

Ahh. Mine has only happened when a save is going on and the program is stopped for some reason.

When its happened it kills me though, because ive played all of the games myself. 1st league it happened in i had been playing for 8 years. Friend of mine who got me into the game talked me into buy 9 last month, so i figured i move my newest incarnation, in its 10th year, to the new game.

Im still at the begining of the season, so restarting it isnt a problem, but i want to see if theres a solution.

Any saved game from any program that I've ever used is destroyed when there is an interruption in the saving process. I don't see a way around that. (Other than backing up your saved games, of course!)

As for why the game crashed or froze in the first place, could you please upload a zipped copy of your .dat files from your damaged league and let us know the file name per the instructions below? It might help us discover the source of the problem. Thanks.

File Transfer Protocol. Just a way to transfer sheer data without all the graphical stuff that most people wade through.

These files reveal that the game crashed while writing nations to the world.dat... this is basically impossible. Do you have enough disk-space? Maybe your HD has bad blocks?

Had this happen to a GM in our online league. He was not using the most recent version of 9.1.2 and I was as commissioner. That was exactly the crash he got, related to world.dat

You do get that error if you try to open a 9.1.2 file in an unpatched game (happened to lots of people in my league, upgrading fixed it), but that doesn't sound like what's going on here.

Just tonight got this message after upgrading to the latest version; all i can think is that it was a bad install of the upgrade since i didn't have any issues on my other pc. Any way out of this or am i destined to start over? i tried uninstall / re-install w/ no luck. Great game otherwise.

Showing as v9.1.2 because i also tried to drop bac to previous version.

OK - like i said above it was probably a bad install....i had previously installed to my D: drive and when upgrading i probably forgot change the drive letter. Using 'Process Monitor' from Sysinternals (great for troubleshooting) i determined it was looking for the world.dat in my c: drive (as well as everything else from my saved game). So by copying my saved game to C: it now works. I'm still not sure why though after subsequent re-installs (and pointing the install to D: drive) that it did not find it again. So bottom line i'm back in business (albeit on my C: drive). Thanks again for a great game.
