BZ 1948: player history display problems

Many of my player histories seem to be messed up when displayed. Tends to be worse for more veteran players than for newer players.

The most common symptom is that the last entry looks like its missing line feeds. Starts out OK, but then one entry runs on and on. Something like:

07-08-2008: Was selected to the 2008 Major American League All-Star game.
12-10-2008: Was traded by the San Francisco Giants to the Cincinnati Red in exchange for 1B G. Canavaro, C P. Jiraldo.20090101 SISA scouting updated ratings (potential): Stuff 15 (15); Movement: 11(11); Control: 14(14).200902102 Signed a 2-year contract extension [...]

Sometimes its so long that it stops in the middle of a sentence.

For one player, I get an error message when I open his history:

HYPER_TEXT::set hyper_text_button_callback_info - invalid link info1

I need to click on OK three times before the message eventually disappears and the history appears; his history includes a run-on entry as well. (A very veteran player with lots of awards and highlights in his career.)

I just started seeing this when I upgraded to OOTP 9. Haven't seen any postings about this.

I have seen this on a couple of occassions but this was after downloading a league file and assumed it was a corrupted file. What version of the game are you running?

It seems to be that a new-line / carriage return isn't been put into the file in the correct place.

This wasn't a downloaded file; its a league I've been playing for a couple of years, which I started from scratch.

I'm running version 9.1.6.

And this saved game was converted from an earlier release of OOTP?

Do you see the issue in leagues newly created in OOTP 9?

The saved game is one I've run for several years. I don't have any leagues newly created in OOTP 9 - just this one.

In poking around, it seems the problem occurs with large player news files. The player mentioned above has over 1000 characters in his file; others I saw with the problem have counts of 541, 591, 649, 797, 891, and 1206 characters. (Counted by putting the text from the txt file into Word and looking at its character count.) In each case the .txt version of the player history looks fine; the .html file (and the histories shown in the game screens) have text merged together as described above.

Its not totally the case that large files have problems. I did find one player whose file is 548 characters, but whose HTML history looks fine. But in general it seemed that players without a lot of "history" don't have the problem; those who've been around for many years with lots of awards, milestones, and injuries have the problem.

Does this help? I can send you text files for some of the players in question if you'd like.

It's possible that this is a carryover from an old bug in a previous version of the game, but please do send us some of the files. You can use the following instructions:

It took a while, but I finally was able to FTP my files. (The posting doesn't specifically mention the server name, etc. I was able to guess what it was and finally upload my file.)

Its called prigsbee-history-files.zip. Contains .txt files for three players, and the .html files for the same three players. While the formatting for the .html files is missing, you can see the mashed together history for each of them.

Let me know if you need anything else.

I just converted a league from OOTP 8 to OOTP 9 and had the same situation come up as prigsbee.

I'm also using a Mac - so it may be OS dependent, and I'm also running 9.1.6
