Cato taking 1:45 to complete.

HOLY CRAP is this normal? can I just delete the league file folder I made in the mycatofiles folder after each season, and put new file in there. or will that cause issues with cato. ? and is it normal for it to take almost 2 hours to complete?

How many seasons do you have done? I have 23 and it takes me just over 2 hours. It will depend on comp speed and number of seasons/teams.

As far as deletion...I don't think you can but I could be wrong.

I think your nearly 2 hours is about right though (unless you only have a few seasons).

Once the season data loads into the database, you can delete any of the folders the program generates, as long as you keep the .mdb file untouched. However, it's not recommended because if you ever have problems in the future and need to reload the database, the program can just directly import from the files in those folders. As far as taking two hours, it is quite normal to take even longer depending on the amount of season, teams, players and the type of data you want outputted. I have a 20 year history in my league and it takes about 3 1/2 hours to output all of the files.

This is a design flaw with the program, it rebuilds pages from the database even if the data on the page has not been updated. I had a league with 140+ seasons and I would run cato only after I played a decade or more because it took over a day to run, eventually put cato on a second pc just to do the processing......

Actually, there is a possiblity that every player page could be updated, even if they're retired, as the average HOF ranking for Hall of Famers, and also possibly the player similarity scores can change from year to year.

If I was designing the database I would probably would have used two tables, one for retired and one for active players in each of the main tables. I would also have a leaderboard tables and then cross reference only the acive players each year. Looking at the way the access tables were created and the number of temporary tables required to build the pages I still believe that the program had major design flaws. It started as a small program and grew to the point where the code was probably unmanageable.....

As for similarity scores I would probably had an option to rebuild older pages at another time or to build select players or seasons......just an idea. HOF rankings and such could be saved in a table instead of being rebuilt each year. Retired players don't have their ranks changed just the freshly retired players placed in to the HOF...

Hopefully for the next version there will be many outside utilities because of the SQL dump....
