Question About Making Skins

Since Steves little message at the top is REALLY vauge...I was wondering how the rest of you make the skins.

I've been messing with making my own...but I'm having a tough time...it seems like editing the colors.ini file does nothing and half of the colors in the textcolors.ini file do nothing as well.

I was also wondering how people are blending images together to make a really impressive looking backgrounds,etc.

Can someone tell me the key things to making skins?

I have:

Adobe Photoshop 7.0
ACDSee 5.0
PhotoCanvas

What are the key things?

Thanks for any answers.

Here are a few ideas.

The background is the "default" file found in the graphics folder. My own pet peeve, why didnt they put the default and logosmall files in the skin folder so that when you change skins the logo and background also change.

Here are some things I have done to the default file, to create skins for the NML and NABC, check out the league skins thread.

Using Paint shop pro, I add a layer to the default file, then flood fill with the background color I want.

Then using the text tool I put in the league abrevation like 'NML".
I then copy this layer about 5 times then move the layers so that I get a scattered NML on the background. Then turn off the background layer and merge the visable layers, so that all the text are now on one layer. Turn the background back on. I use the opacity slider for the layer to fade the text to more of a watermark look. You can also use the other tool on the layers palate, cant remember the name, to do other things to the text.

Something else to try, instead of doing text, copy a picture as a layer over the background. Then try using the opacity slider to fade the pic so that the background comes thourgh. Or use the other palate tool and try something like burn or diffuse.

Hope this helps.

I've dabbled with creating a new skin, but haven't gone through with it yet. What I'm wondering is, has anyone made a list of what the colors in the ini files correspond to? maybe in the future the ini file could be set up more like

leaderstext=234,0,0
standingstext=125,128,0

instead of just

234,0,0
125,128,0
