Teflon's New Stadium - Bridge Street Park

Built for the relatively modest sum of $180 million in these days of mega-spending on new stadiums, Bridge Street Park was constructed on the river front site of a former flour mill and freight terminal. The open outfield offers pleasant summer evening views of the river and city skyline as well as the chance to watch a freight train or two rumbling past the stadium on the still-used railroad bridge. The stadium is definitely a fan favorite, with each game a near sell-out - as much for the ice cold beer and mouth-watering bratwurst as for the genuinely friendly ballpark personnel and meticulous upkeep.

One of the more unique occurences in all of baseball takes place in Bridge Street Park during the seventh inning stretch. "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" is NOT played - instead fans all stand and whistle "Colonel Bogey's March." (The World War I tune made famous in the movie "The Bridge on the River Kwai.") Supposedly, the song was whistled by a group of fans as an opposing team's pitcher strode in from the bullpen. This soon became a regular habit and the song was adopted as the official 7th Inning observance.
