To the Stadium Creators

Ok I am sure it isnt easy work but I have a few questions.

1. How long does it take to do a stadium

2. Do you guys use templates, or how do you get the stadiums to look differently.

3. How do you create logos in the outfield etc.

4. How do you generate different skylines

Basically how does the whole stadium creation work?
Is there a tutorial anywhere?

I can't speak for the other stadium creators - only myself. Stadiums can take anywhere from a couple hours to a full day depending on the amount of detail and the neccessary editing. Having a good image editing program that lets you work in layers is a must. I have an older version of Paint Shop that is well worth the $100 it cost me. It lets me do things like tweak contrast, highlights, midtones, etc, which is vital to make clipped pieces seem to match.

The other thing that is neccessary is to have a big collection of images to work from. I am constantly searching the web for good pictures. I have used trusswork from bridges in some of the stadiums, brick textures from school buildings, etc. and am always looking for well-lit cityscapes. For the baseball specific images, I have owned a lot of different PC games over the years and draw heavily from them - particularly Old Time Baseball, Tony LaRussa Baseball, and High Heat. A good screen capture program like Hyper Snap is also nice to have when capturing images sequentially or when using a video accelerator like Voodoo or Rage.

Hope this answers a few of the questions for the curious designers-to-be out there.

So there are no field templates out there? I think i could add everything else once I had the basic field.

LedgerSko - If you want something to get you started, here is a picture of a playing field with no other detail.

If you mean getting it look right as far as the players and the PbP text box.....
I believe you have to do some of the editing in OOTP...for instance some of the stadium creators have totally different designs as to where the field is and where it shows the players, even where the line-up is displayed...

I know have one where it almost makes it look like a different game because what you are seeing is totally different...

If you play around with the settings in the edit ballpark (on the bottom) you can pretty much move the icons of the players around and tell the game how big the field should look and so and so forth....
