Hmmm. That is strange then. That is the latest download.....

My experience:
I had just downloaded from the first link which is the the old version. I then got that message. Afterwards I went back the his site and decided I would actually read everything [it's a bad habit ] I then downloaded the 5.0.0 update, overwrote the old files and it worked fine.

Any other info that you can pass along?

That worked. I guess you need to reinstall the whole program. Thanks again.

Glad to see it's working now.

One potential reason for getting that error message, besides "odd characters" is if you use double quotes in any of the names. I don't think that's in the readme, but it's a no-no.

For instance, a manager name of John David 'JD' Washington is okay, but John David "JD" Washington is not.

That is usually the only "error" in the teams.csv file.

And, by odd charactes, I mean non-alphabetic characters. They might little rectangles or solid squares or something like that. If you open players.csv in Notepad you will probably see some. The program will ignore most of them, but certain ones always cause a problem.

Here's an odd question...I have a FA that played and got released by 2 different teams in one season. What team do I assign him to?

I'm running into a problem. When I hit "Enter/Edit All Stars" I get the following error:

Syntax error. in query expression 'Master.PlayerID In (Select PlayerID From Batting WHERE Year = AND Lg ="".

Any idea what that can be? This is the first time I've run the utility. I've created all the necessary files (Csv and Html).

Thanks.

PS: I didn't mean to add the little face. I think it's because of the semicolon and parenthesis.

koohead -

I guess whichever one he played the most games for. Since he wasn't traded, his stats won't be split.

Another possibility that might work is to edit the ltrans.html file and put in a dummy trade on a date between when he played for the 2 teams. Just be sure to enter exactly the same way other trades are.

just my luck, the old guy pitched 3 games for each team. "JWAY"

OH well....guess I'll just have to flip a coin or something. Thanks!

I may try the trade method...although I don't want to mess with the guys history...

I would just like to chime in and say that there is nothing else even close to this utility. Nothing else can both convey a sense of history to a league, and satisfy the most demanding stat junkies.

In my fist online league, I took over a team that finished last in all 7 years of the leagues existence. It was great to look back through the history of my new team and see all the decisions made which brought the team to where I inherited it.

I was worried about what the transition from ver4 to ver5 would do. Thanks so much for the update!
