Cool OOTP History 5 for OOTP5

It's now available here!

This is an update to version 4.x. If you don't have version 4.x installed, download the full install for version 4 and run setup. Then, download and unzip the version 5 update to the program folder.

If you want to use both ver 4 and ver 5, create a new folder and copy the contents of the ver 4 folder to this new folder. Then, apply the update to this new folder.

Changes and Fixes:
  • Now works with OOTP5. Previous versions will not work. I will keep the 4.x versions available. I will update as needed to eliminate bugs, but I will not be adding any new features to the 4.x versions.
  • Added support for park.csv and post_season.csv file, these files will be imported with the other csv files.
  • Added more indexes to database tables to (hopefully) reduce processing times.
  • Stadium name is now imported instead of having to be manually entered.
  • On Awards screen, added button to import league award winners. Winners can still be entered or edited manually.
  • Added a 'smart' case function to correctly capitalize names. The first character, and any character after one of the following characters, will be capitalized: space, comma, apostrophe, period, or dash. All other letters will be lowercase.
  • Added more bio data to player pages, Nickname, Height, Weight, and Hometown
  • Added ability to have team logos on team pages and player photos on player pages.
  • Added an Images tab to the options screen:
Get Team Logos: If checked, the program will copy the bmp files (logoX.bmp) from the specified location to the images\logos folder under the root web folder. Since team numbers change when expanding/contracting, the files are saved with the name [city]_[name].bmp. All non-alphabetical characters are removed from these names first. So, the logo for 'St. Louis (A) O'Douls' would be saved as stlouisa_odouls.bmp
Get Player Photos: Same as Get Team Logos, except the files (pXXX.bmp or fname_lname.bmp) are saved in \images\photos with the name [playerid].bmp
Use Team Logos (Extension): Check this to actually use the logos (with the specified extension) on the team pages. If you have your logos in jpeg format you could copy these to images\logos, rename them to the above format ([city]_[name].jpg), and specify an extension of .jpg. Then, you wouldn't need to check the Get Team Logos box, since they are already there in another format.
Use Player Photos (Extension): Same as Use Team Logos, only for player photos
  • If used, the player's photo will appear on his stat line on the HOF Register page.
  • On Team Index pages, added Players Traded section next to Player Salaries. This will list the date and the players involved in each trade for that year.

I hope I found most of the problems, but let me know if not! Have Fun!

I just ran the first season of my solo league through the utility. It took a while (2 hours-ish) but other than that everything looks great.

Thanks again Cato,

Cato is the database the same? I.E. my league that was using OOTP4 has just updated to OOTP5, will the old history created with the Version 4 of the History program still work with that database, or do I have to convert each old league file to OOTP5 and re-import?

Thanks a ton for this Jeff!

You can continue with your current database. When you open an existing (ver 4) database, it will be updated to work with ver 5. However, once updated, it will no longer work with ver 4, so make a backup first in case anything bad happens!

Jeff, just a question...

I'm missing four season files. However, there's the opportunity to import rosters from CSV.

That said...is it possible to create CSV reports from those season files I'm missing, then get the data necessary to run your program? Ryan's extremely busy, and I don't see him making a v5 version of his history. I'd love to give this theory a try, but I'd like some advice on this before I give it a whirl.

Great Work. I seem to be having some problems with historical rosters, I think due to all the overlong nicknames and city names

I noticed it asks for the start and end dates of the season, will this mess anything up if I'm off by a day or two? Also, why is this info needed? Thanks Cato

It's needed to keep track of trade splits... if you're off by a day or two, the only thing it may mess up slightly are the trade splits (for example, if you say the season ended up October 4th, but in reality that was the first day of playoffs, then it will include the stats from those games in the players trade splits).

I don't think that will work. I'm not sure exactly what you're saying, but if you don't have the players.dat, team.dat,... files for a particular season, then you can't use the Exporter to create the CSV files. Also, I don't think skipping seasons will work. I think you'll have to start with the season after the missing ones and use the career exporter to include the earlier stats as 'pre-sim' stats.

I haven't thought about it, but maybe.

By problem, do you mean you have to edit the players.csv file? I noticed this, too. It seems that there is a 15 character limit on nicknames in OOTP5. If, in OOTP5, you type (or import) a nickname that is more than 15 characters, the program puts odd characters at the end. I tried to check for these, but no matter what I tried it would still stop importing.

No, in fact, I usually add a day to the end, in case there is a play-off to get into the post-season, since those stats count in the season stats.

The dates are needed for 2 reasons. First, the start date is used to limit the number of records imported from the *_game.csv files. These are a very large files and would take way too long to import the whole thing. So, the program only imports for players traded after the start of the season. I don't think it would hurt anything if you type in 1/1 everytime, it would just take longer to import if there are pre-season trades.

Second, the end date is used to tell the program when to stop importing game data for each player. In the *_game.csv files, there is no indication when the post-season starts, so without an end date, post-season stats would be counted in with regular season and wouldn't match the totals imported from the player_batpitch.csv file.

At what point did the error happen? Zip up the data files (including the 3 HTML files) and email them to me. I'll take a look.
