With word during the early part of the 2003 season that the long-anticipated move of the Expos from Montreal would finally occur, several proposals were submitted in the hopes of bringing Major League Baseball to their respective cities. The favorites were Washington, D.C., and Portland, Oregon, but Charlotte entered the picture as a surprisingly strong candidate, as well. The ultimate nod, however, went to Washington, despite the Baltimore Orioles' strong protestations. On September 23rd, 2003, commissioner Bud Selig and the new Washington ownership group appeared in a press conference to announce that MLB was returning to Washington.
Also announced during the press conference was the team's future ballpark, the Capitol Grounds at Independence Park. Built with functionality as well as looks in mind, it implements and builds upon several concepts found in other major league ballparks, throwing in its own special features, as well. With a scenic view of several Washington landmarks beyond the outfield wall, classic brick architecture, and a unique three-level concourse that encircles the entire facility and offers a breathtaking view of the city from the third level in centerfield, the park is sure to be popular with fans and players alike. Thanks to Henry, Teflon Skies, and all the fictional ballpark creators for the inspiration and building blocks(Robert Coover Stadium by Henry was the main one) to make this. It's been nearly a year since I've messed with stadium creation, so my technique is far from perfect, but hopefully this will be useful for a few people. The city background, the brick/cement backdrop, a few architectural changes, and signage is the main part of what I contributed to it. Thanks for the positive comments, though. |

It's there immediately after it's uploaded. Just post a link in the forum to adventureran.com/mods/yourfilename and you're set to go. You don't have to wait for me to put it on a Directory page. That's why I set it up this way - no waiting. That's what we OOTP Mods people like - no waiting.

Great work!
Actually, from that angle the stadium would be across the river in Arlington, Virginia. The current stadium site candidates in DC would have views of just the Capitol and the Washington Monument. The web site for the Washington Baseball club is http://www.baseballindc.com/. The Virginians for Baseball site http://www.virginiansforbaseball.com...conference.cfm has some pictures of what the Virginians want to build. |

Yeah, I knew it was a bit farther away than the expected plan was, but that picture I found for the background was just too good to not use.
![]() Thanks for the links, by the way. It's always interesting to see what people think about getting sports franchises(especially after Memphis' neverending pursuit of the NFL, well, ended, and then got the Grizzlies less than a decade later). |
