Municipal Field

Municipal Field began its existence as a minor league ballpark. Once the city landed a big league club, plans were to house them at city-owned Municipal Field for two seasons until the owners' privately funded state-of-the-art downtown ballpark could be finished. In preparation for its short-term duty, a double-decked grandstand was erected in left field at Municipal Field and additional seating was placed down the foul lines to bring capacity up to a major league minimum, but further improvements such as private suites or video replay screens were deemed unnecessary for the temporary ballpark. Unfortunately for the ballclub, the owner - thought to be financially stable by the league - quickly suffered a reversal of fortunes followed by a string of indictments. Construction on the downtown ballpark abruptly halted - leaving no more than a large hole in the ground. The league stepped in to run the team in the interim but given the lack of a new stadium and the city's current economic climate, a search for a new owners has been unsuccessful.

Municipal Field is located in the midst of the largest grain terminal complex on the great plains. In fact, terminal-bound trains routinely lumber noisily just beyond the right field and center field fences. Because of the proximity to the tracks and loading facility, right field is very short. An 11 foot wall topped by a 23 foot chainlink fence keeps some of the balls hit that way in the yard, but more than a few make their way over. Conversely, the park is extremely deep to center and left fields. In its minor league days before the left field grandstands were added, the park was extremely windblown and balls hit to left and left center died quickly. With the sheltering stands in place, the ball carries much better but the depth of the fences still requires the ball to be hammered to leave the yard. High fly balls still catch the jetstream, however, and it's not uncommon to see a fielder camped under a routine pop-up take off running as the wind catches the ball. The field has survived two tornados - although the most recent toppled the distinctive ear of corn-shaped water tower that rises behind the grain terminal. It has since been repaired.

Ballpark Site

I am in the process of editing the web site where my ballparks are posted. I'm adding individual data and descriptions - which are not completed yet. Bitmaps are still available for all parks as are the Park.dat and Parkconfig.dat files You can get to my site by simply typing hall-fame.com or www.hall-fame.com in your browser window.

just out of curiosity, shouldn't the avg of lhb and rhb be switched? Seems like the rhb have a whole lot more room to hit to, vs. the lhb.

Ballpark Factors

akw4572 - you can change the factors to whatever you like. The factors I listed were generated using the ballpark spreadsheet posted earlier in the forums. I'd assume the bigger dimensions would cause some singles to become doubles and triples in the wider gaps by RH batters but would also cause a lot more deep flies to be caught instead of leaving the park or hitting off the walls. The extreme shortness of RF, however, would basically have the same affect that LF in Fenway has - easy flyouts in other parks become singles and doubles off the wall or homers over it.
