Secret Coke Formula

Well, I am not quite wondering what the formula for Coke is, but I was wondering, without trade secrets being given away, what filter some of the excellent Park Artists use to gain the not quite real, cartoonish effect for stadium backdrops - i.e. city scapes, mountain ranges, et al?

I've seen some with non edited photo-quality backdrops, and they look very nice, but that added touch of of the almost animated quality (like Teflon's) is nice... unless they ARE drawn, which is what my wife suggested. I just assumed it was a filter in Photoshop or PSP.

The parks look so great that folk on here make... all I can do is hack and edit already existing ones... though I want to try my hand - hence the question.

Thanks in advance.

I usually skew the backgrounds a litle to straighten out the angles and perspective to match the foreground - which unsharpens them a little bit - giving them a less photo-like appearance. I will also soften some backgrounds or make them a bit transparent over a white background to give the impression of distance. If you look at my post for United Technologies Ballpark, you'll see what the original background picture looked like. It was skewed slightly and made less opaque - which brightened it some also - as I wanted it to look more like 7pm than midnight.
