Gatewood Park - New Smaller Ballpark

Gatewood Park is another smaller-scale design for minor league or regional team use. This is a recently constructed stadium, built in the last year in the Gatewood industrial park - home to many high tech fabrication and design facilities. The home team draws faithfully from the many employees of the neighboring plants and has generated a cult-like following of regulars who meet long before game time, barbecue in the parking lots, and frequent the sports bar across the freeway following the game.

Gatewood Park seats a total of 8,105 fans in a singe deck infield grandstand and bleacher seats down both foul lines and in right field. As with most new ballparks of this size, the infield grandstand is topped by a row of suites and club seating.

The dimensions are symmetrical and slightly deep favoring pitchers, but the blocking off of the majority of centerfield by the batter’s eye, billboards, and scoreboards ensures that any prevailing breeze favors the hitters. All-in-all, this ballpark is one of the least partial configurations designed.

The stadium features an authentic dining car atop the right field stands called the Ballpark Diner - famous for its non-traditional ballgame food like Ruebens and Commercials - and infamous for its industrial strength coffee. Left field features a picnic and playground area overlooking the field from atop a grassy incline. The home team left fielder always tosses the ball he plays catch with before each inning up to the picnic area and it’s also a frequent landing area for homeruns from righty sluggers - so it‘s routinely crowded with kids hoping for a free baseball.

There is a no-frills scoreboard/message board in the left-center alley and a hand-operated out-of-town scoreboard in the right-center alley. The team owners hope to add a video display board in the next season, and judging from the number of ads they sell and the loyalty of their fans, that expense should be well within their budget.

Capacity: 8,105

Left Field Line: 325 ft.
Left Field: 350 ft.
Left Center: 377 ft.
Center Field: 404 Ft.
Right Center: 377 ft.
Right Field: 350 ft.
Right Field Line: 325 ft.

Fences 9 ft.
