adventureran to get Face Lift
OK, well maybe I should say, adventureran's OOTP Mods Directory will get a face lift.
During the weekend of the 4th of July (Fri-Sun), the main pages of the site will be down and undergoing construction. During this time, you may still upload via ftp and the downloads index page will still be available for downloads. Only the main pages will be down. Upon it's return on Monday (at the latest), will be a new design and some new features including an upload script (no more ftp uploads), more downloads, more links, download stats & ratings, special sections for some of our more active contributors, an online league listing, sports news & scores, and more. Thanks to all for their support and most importantly, to all the contributors. We all appreciate all your talent, hard work and generosity in sharing your wares with the community. Enjoy! |

Heck I am glad you are home and doing better. A facelift for the site gives you time to make it JUST how you like it Ran.
I will be waiting to see how it looks!

Just wanted to bump this as a reminder that the site will be basically down tomorrow through the weekend. You may still download from the index page at http://www.adventureran.com/mods. I made some pretty good progress on it this week, so hopefully it will be done earlier than anticipated.

Well, folks. The site is going down. There is no need for 2 of these. So visit OOTPLinks and I'm sure Cooley will take good care of you.
Thanks to all for their support and good wishes. |

I think that your assumption that we don't need 2 is incorrect. There is always room for more since nobody knows exactly where any particular site will be tomorrow. Who is to say that Cooley will keep his site maintained like you did or that he will get the same uploads as you? Besides, if you thought that you were the only kid on the block before he revamped his site then you are sadly mistaken. There were many different sites like yours already but that didn't stop your site from growing and remaining very popular. You should seriously reconsider your position on shutting down. If you remain content with ending your tenure then maybe you would be willing to ship me your HTML pages and some inside knowledge and I'll take over where you left off. It would be a shame to see your site vanish. |

I appreciate what you're saying, however, one of the biggest problems here is that things are all over the place. Which makes it difficult to find things. With that in mind, the Directory was working to become a place where even if what someone was looking wasn't there, they could be directed to it. It didn't strive to be the only "kid on the block". It wasn't just a file farm, it was a directory.
And for two sites with obviously the same intentions to begin competing for people to use and post and upload to their sites, would defeat the purpose. I won't do that. This is not a competition. This was meant to be an aid and to fill in something that was sorely missing from the community. I wish Mark all the best on his venture and would gladly help in any way I can. I recommend all you "modsters" take your wares to OOTP Links or at least ask him to link to you so the community can have a terrific resource. Thanks again. |

But you are jumping the gun a bit and assuming that he will run a better site than you. So far there seems to be a lot of traffic on your site and I highly doubt that it will stop just because someone else comes along and tries to do the same thing. Instead of leaving once a new site hits the web you might want to stick around and become the longest standing OOTP directory that ever existed. There will be future versions of the game and always a need for an extremely good directory site. You have proven to this point that you were highly dedicated to the job and now it seems like you have changed your mind in the matter of a few seconds. What if this other site didn't pop up over night? Were you just waiting for someone to take over the responsibility because then I might understand? Otherwise, like I already said, you seemed excited and if I were you then this other site wouldn't stop me from doing what makes me happy.
If you really want to stop then so-be-it. All that I am trying to say is that you had a really good thing going that many people loved using on a daily basis. It would be a shame if you stopped all of that just because someone else wanted to give it a shot. Someone who could very well pass off into the night just like all the other OOTP webmasters that have come and gone. BTW, there has always been BBSC that has been up and running long before your site and is considered a comprehensive OOTP directory. Nearly all of the OOTP users visit that site and the uploads continue to occur regularly. This seemed to have no effect on how well your site was received and utilized. No matter what you do there will never be just one all inclusive directory site. What you should strive for instead is to have the best damn directory site possible. You were well on your way to that already. If you won’t reconsider then all I have left to say is best of luck to you. |

Ran, one thing to keep in mind, which has not been mentioned yet is that Cooley's site is being ran by a PHP program. This makes it easier on the person running the site, but also limits what you can do with it. I personally prefer a site like yours to the PHP one.
I was working on the webpage for a Mods and etc website for TPB and when thinking of links to put down under the user links section, yours was the first that came to mind. Do what you feel is right for you, but this is something to consider |

The one thing I can say about the Mods community is their diversity and their willingness to help. I believe that there is room for more than one site for mods, as circumstances can bring a site down in moments, what if cooley's goes down, and yours is no longer there?
Defeats the purpose of helping the community if you don't keep the site, Ran. I am always in favor of more help, instead of less. BTW, I use both sites , and will continue as long as they are there. Just my opinion.
