BOSI on PC installation problem

Hi, I'm trying to install BOSI on my PC. I'm following the instructions at http://jpbaseball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=146 but am encountering a problem at the following step:

"Now go to the c:\apache\mysql directory. Run mysqld.exe which will pop open a DOS box and disappear. Then run mysql.exe which will open a DOS box wth a prompt. You need to type four commands here:"

I go to this directory, and files of this name are not located there. They are in the \mysql\bin directory. So I go there, run mysqld.exe, it pops up the DOS box, then I try to run mysql.exe and I get the following error in a DOS box:

"ERROR 2003: Can't connect to MySQL sever on 'localhost' <10061>"

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have the same problem, except I don't even have time to view an error message before I hear a loud beep and the DOS box disappears.

Again, any help appreciated.

Well, I got my problem fixed so maybe I can help. You can see the message if you manually go into the DOS prompt, and type out the command.

I fixed my problem by just running MYSQL -D from the Start menu, rather than when I was browsing the directory. That's all it took, and from there out it worked great. Cheers to CommishJoe for all his great help.

Still no luck. Maybe I should start at the beginning and go through one question at a time.

First, in the instructions it says the following:

Quote:
Go to the c:\apache\conf directory, and open up httpd.conf in a text editor. About a quarter of the way down, there's a line that will say DocumentRoot "C:\apache\htdocs". Change that to your BOSI directory, so it would look like: Document Root "C:\bosi"
In fact, the line in httpd.conf says c:/apache/htdocs. Should the reference to the bosi directory change the direction of the slashes to c:\bosi, or should it be c:/bosi?

Second, as aphoward mentions, instructions say "Now go to the c:\apache\mysql directory. Run mysqld.exe which will pop open a DOS box and disappear" but mysqld is actually in \apache\mysql\bin directory. I can run this by browsing to the directory and double clicking or through the run command on the start menu: they both do the same thing (DOS box appears very briefly and disappears) and do not seem to affect the next step, which still doesn't work. Am I OK at this stage or do I need to do something different to run mysqld.exe?

Third, instruction then say "Then run mysql.exe which will open a DOS box wth a prompt." I have tried to run this by browsing to the directory and double clicking, by the run command, and by start menu> all programs> PHPTriad> Start Mysql. All of these produce no result - I get DOS box flash, a warning beep, and the box immediately disappears. I have also tried to go directly to the DOS prompt, ie. Start menu>Accessories>Command Prompt, but must admit I don't know exactly what to do when I get there. If this is what I have to do, do I first need to change directories to the \apache\mysql\bin directory?? What exactly do I type once I get to the right place??

Sorry for the length of this.... btw, I am in Windows XP. Any help appreciated

You are having the same problem I did. Like I said, run mysqld.exe through your START MENU. I don't know why, but it does something differently.
