Cato / Commish Joe question

OK, so I have downloaded the CommishJoe exporter from Cato's site like everyone says to do because of the problems with the BOSI site. I exported the CSV files just fine, and then try to import the stats in Cato....and of course I still get the error in line 2 bit about opening players.csv in Wordpad, turn off word wrap, etc. I went through the entire .csv file, taking out all the funny characters, nicknames, etc., but I still get the error and can't get past the import stats step in Cato.

I did notice however that CommishJoe's exporter on Cato's site now includes the file schedule.exe, so is the exporter on Cato's site now the updated file like the one on the BOSI site that everyone says will not work? If so, does someone have the old exporter still zipped up that they can email to me?

I appreciate any help I can get so I can get started on putting my league history together.

Re: Cato / Commish Joe question

The CommishJoe's Exporter 5 link on Jeff's OOTP History download page is the same one it has always been, it has not been updated on that site (file date stamps are from April of 2003). This is indeed the utility you need to use when creating OOTP History pages. Make sure that you are using the correct OOTP History utility for the correct OOTP version, and to be safe I would re-download the "CommishJoe's Exporter 5" on Cato's site and unzip this version. Depending on how you have your PC set up it is possible you are pointing to a newer version of CommishJoe's Exporter that is installed elsewhere on your PC. AFAIK you won't get the error you describe if you use the correct utility, good luck and let us know how it goes.

I've got Cato version 5.3 running, and to get to that point I downloaded version 4, then updated to version 5.0, and then to 5.3 from there. I've know I've got only one copy of CommishJoe's exporter on my PC so I don't think that would be the problem. Just in case, I downloaded the exporter from Cato's site again like you said and I deleted the old version I had. I re-exported everything and tried to import the stats in Cato again. Still got the error on line 2.

Thanks for the help.

Well, I found my mistake....after I downloaded Exporter v.5 for the second time, I re-exported the data, but then forgot to take that data from C:\TEMP to the data folder so the old data was still there. No wonder Cato's program kept finding errors. My stupidity I guess.

Thanks Killebrew for the help. For some reason, I thought the exporter I had on my computer was the right one, but I guess it wasn't. Everything seems to be working OK now.

I had the same problem. I opened up the players csv in notepad and deleted the characters in the nickname in the line before the one that was giving the error. Everything worked fine after that.

That is actually a different error - this line two error is caused by an incorrect number of columns due to an incorrect version of the CommishJoe exporter. The error you describe is due to the fact quotes cannot be used in any field, this most often occurs in the nickname field as you describe.
